When I was a kid my grandfather used dynamite to remove stumps on his farm. You could buy blasting supplies at the hardware store. In the early 70s dynamite attacks in the US were in the thousands and the use of the stuff was highly regulated as a result. Mining and construction people can still use dynamite but it is carefully licensed regulated, and tracked. Guess what happened to the number of dynamite attacks after the ban? They all but disappeared.

History showed us what that dictator's dream would look like. If the power in control says wanting red socks for casual wear means you are mentally ill.. then all folks with the color red in their socks are NUTS and need to be imprisoned in some institution-- forever. That has happened in one form or another several times in human history.

So, democrat president 'X' may simply decree that just desiring the means to defend yourself from violent felons means you are INSANE, then you ARE indeed insane and need to be placed into one of those mental institutions forever.

Another thing, I don't know about this one, but most of the mass shootings in recent years were done by some one on prescription drugs for mental health issues. Could it be that drugs may not be the best answer for all people with mental health disorders.

Good question/point. It seems obvious that what is being done is insufficient.

It's does seem obvious that anyone being treated for serious mental disorder via medications- which might be "mood changers" - should not have access to firearms and probably should not be free into the general population.

As I mentioned to crazy oldy-moldy, the diagnosis of that 'insanity' needs to be done and all treatments overseen by dedicated, qualified, responsible, reviewed, professionals. Not just any political hack or P-Oed relative should not be capable of getting anyone committed to a mental institution.
