Whether you liked him or not he was what he was. A TRUE BELIEVER AND LOVER OF AMERICA. I noticed in the comment sections of these videos a lot of disparaging remarks. Just so all here know he did have injuries from the mocies he had made but the most important thing is at least as far as Im concerned is that the miitary felt he was better suited to portraying the very best of America when we at war.

I always admired John Wayne, his love for our nation can not be disputed. Although I respect the right of those who disagree, their opinions do not change my mind. So, may John rest in peace.

I too liked John Wayne.
I think he was a good man and a patriot.
That said. If you want to use his war movies to promote war then realize:

John Wayne's movies lied. WAR IS NOT FUN!

I don't believe John Wayne's war movies ever portrayed the actual battles as "fun."

Soldiers had to be able to find lighter moments on occasion, lest they lose their ability to cope under the extreme stressfulness of being in war.

They never lost the knowledge that they were in a "life and death" situation, that could, on any given day, be their last moment of life upon this earth.

Finding moments of levity and relaxation under such conditions was an absolute necessity.

JOHN Wayne, almost always, portrayed the unique and endearing characteristics for which Americans were always known in the past.

That includes love of freedom, independent thinking, concern for their fellow Americans, especially if underdogs, and compassion for anyone in danger or otherwise in need of assistance.

Obviously, that would not extend to America's enemies in time of war.

I realize wars is not fun!!!! However, during WWII it was necessary that the American population be behinf the war effort. Anyone who trly gloifies war has never experienced it. mY own nightmares are my own truth like yours. As I have said in the past here on OPP the most horrific experience for me were the children that were in the way. Thats really all I personally need to say about this.

While my Father was landing on beaches in the South Pacific John Wayne was sipping mai tai’s at the Polo Lounge in Hollywood. Wayne was nothing but a cowardly hack actor cut from the same rotten cloth as Reagan who liberated Europe on a movie set and then lied about it claiming he was there. There is a term for that now, stolen honor.

I've read many books with different opinions but john wayne wanted to join the navy for his love of the water for one reason, but rko said he would never work in movies again if he joined.
I believe that story more from all i have learned.
And if you have ever been shot at, you would know everyone is scared in combat.
Thats the reason men do funny things under that pressure, we all do different things to take our minds away from that thought or we would be paralized with fear, like most men.
Not many GI's will talk about everything.
They have more than earned that right and so many others.
I love and support our veterans and troops.
Hats off to the women serving in combat arms.

What really riles me up is these buffoon libs, who have never served a day in their lives have the temerity to weigh in on anything concerning the military, Veterans or their knowledge of WAR!

In what branch of the military did you serve? What beaches did you land on?
