The richest 1 percent now owns more U.S. wealth than at any time in the past 50 years
The world's richest people got a whopping $1 trillion richer in 2017, according to a new report from Bloomberg News. That's about four times the gains they made last year.
That data comes courtesy of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which tracks and ranks the world’s 500 richest people. It attributes much of the economic growth to the stock market's record-high year.
Bloomberg's findings are yet another indication that massive accumulation of wealth at the top of the economic ladder is leading to spiraling inequality.
Jeffrey P. Bezos, founder of Amazon, clocked in as the world's richest person, gaining $34.2 billion in wealth, now worth 99.6 billion, Gates coming in 2nd position, valued at 91.3 billion.
Yep I can see these taxes are killing them.

Do not be overawed when others grow rich, when the splendor of their houses increases; for they will take nothing with them when they die, their splendor will not descend with them.
Republicanism demands that these wealthy receive special treatment, such as the 20% tax cut in the recent tax heist.

What's happening in America is happening also in other countries. When there's such an enormous excess of wealth, the desire to gain wealth is no longer the priority, control is. We are seeing the 1% all over the world overrun countries and democracies. It is about control and we'll see more suppression, more caste systems. The ideals that we love will fall.

I have said that Trump, his administration, and the Republican majority will be exposed by the transparency we are now witnessing, but in the meantime, as this unfolds they are stealing our democracy, if this path we're on continues, we can lose our governing power, our Democratic/Republic.

You have every opportunity to maintain control of your own personal wealth and well being.
I feel no suppression or oppression from the entities you speak of.
Skills, ambition and determination will secure any desire within reason.

Trump on Rushmore, perish the thought. Republicans aren't great with numbers, they love to take and use other peoples money, but that always puts us in the RED, then they point fingers and cry about the users and abusers...ironic eh. What I don't get is the long run, how it eventually will hurt them too. They're not looking for the win-win scenario, only the Ayn Rand...I got mine.

Thank you wolf, but it's not for myself that I am concerned for.

In a 2013 documentary with Robert Reich in which he argued that income inequality is the defining issue for the United States—Reich states that 95% of economic gains went to the top 1% net worth (HNWI) since 2009 when the recovery allegedly started. What don't they get?

Keep supporting Trump and the right wing agenda of moving all wealth to the top. Take some time and reseach what Putin has done in Russia.
Putin and his Oligarchs control the wealth
He destroyed Free Press
He controls the intel agencies
Trumps is destroying free press
He wants control over the Justice department
He wants to bring down the FBI and CIA
Putin by far is the richest man in the world. And Trump wants to be the richest man in the world and he will if we let him.
He has 32% of the south that are still racist and he is scamming these people. By his racist agenda. He lies and misinformation constantly to maintain his 32%. With 32% he can create a civil war in this country.

Except now they can save a fortune when passing the fortune on to their heirs... example... Fred Koch passed his fortune to Charles Koch after conspiring with Stalin improving the USSR's oil production after the start of the cold war... very patriotic .... then Charles Koch "his son" gave us citizens united, the tea party, Paul Ryan & paid for massive gerrymandering as well as many other political people's influence in our government... & that's what Plutocracy is all about... & now that we have elected a wealthy businessman to save us from this plutocracy what has he done?????... hint... he passed Paul Ryan's tax plan for the plutocracy... so much for the working man in America... & all you old retired investors defend this BS... nothing like greed over countryman... this makes Trump great... it's all about the money...

Am in full agreement, these Trump followers, put parties before country, and corporations before people, the writing is on the wall, what does it take to turn people around to simply read it. I guess when things get so bad and is at their own doorstep they'll open their eyes, except of course for the people who have too much wealth or benefits as in government employees to be affected. But that is where we're headed... two parties... two social classes. Though they are pushing for one party.
