I found the perfect solution. I used the older stuff to make a sandwich and a half for the horse. Mrs. B. claims that grape jelly is his favorite anyway. Then I threw the remaining bread out front for the birds, and rabbits.
I had me a pb&j sammich with brand new ingredients, and no guilt!😆
The only thing I did that might get me a sideways look was rinse out the jelly jar, and put it in the dishwasher to be used later. (I know not what for) A habit of mine that bugs the Mrs. for some reason.😉

I used grandkids, you used the horse -- whatever is convenient. I save jars as well, periodically I go through the accumulation and through 90% out. The day after trash collection I find a need for what just threw away. It is part of the depression mentality with me, nothing ever got thrown out. Discards and leftovers kept getting reused in different ways until there was nothing left. Odds and ends of things, endlessly repurposed as long as they endured.

What? Would you have me put it up in the cabinet without being properly washed?

I'm kind of a recovering hoarder myself Paf. I've been using the same 3lb. metal Folgers can to scoop horse feed for close to 30 years now. My wife came home one day with this scoop with a handle to replace it, and I threw a walleyed fit! That ole can has worked for this long, it'll keep on working! She made me go back to the feed store with her, and explain why we didn't need it, and wanted our money back.

And since Ms. Linda mentioned my practical side, I already have a use in mind for the jar.
When my wife cooks something that puts out a lot of grease, she'll use 1/2 a roll of paper towels to soak it up, and throw it in the trash. Wel, now we have a jar to pour it in, and put in the fridge till it's full, or almost full, then throw it in the trash!
And the plastic coffee 'cans' ive been saving WILL be used for assorted outdoor painting projects around here next spring, then thrown out! I'll also overcome the overpowering urge to wash them out, and keep them! I think.....

I keep what used to be 3 lb coffee cans and I use them in the kitchen on the counter. I take one of the plastic bags the supermarkets use for produce (I save them as well) and line the can with it. All trimmings, used paper towels and general kitchen debris go in the bag. At the end of the day I tie off the bag and dump it in the trashcan. After a week or two the coffee can rusts so I throw it out as well and get out a new one.

My son bought me a box of one thousand of those plastic bags from a restaurant supply and a wire frame to hold the bags. He absolutely did not comprehend the principle behind what I was doing. I recycled and extended the life of what would ordinarily fill the trash dumps. Plus it was absolutely "free"; I know I paid for it in the price of what I bought but those were 'sunk' costs anyway. He attributed my displeasure to advancing senility

Lol! Last spring, we bought a new, smaller house, and you wouldn't believe the arguments I had with my kids about my 'stuff'. We donated, sold, gave away, and trashed an unbelievable amount of stuff. And I don't miss any of it! I mean, who needs a butter container full of twisty ties from bread sacks?😂
I was amazed at what I've kept over the years that has a purpose, but I would most likely never use. It was painful, yet practical to get rid of it though. Well, most of it. I did cheat some because you don't just throw good stuff away!

If you ever have need of a new distributor for a 1976 Ford 460 engine, let me know. It will probably fit other year models too. I just couldn't find it a home, or let it go. You know, stuff like that that will make your kids cuss you when you're gone, and they're going through your stuff.

Who cares what they think! I always tell them they are damned lucky I am fond of keeping useless stuff around else they would have been long gone. I find it amusing that whenever they are doing a project and run into something missing I am the first place they call. I either have what they need or a work around.

I want a peanut butter, and jelly sandwich. Ok, so I have a jar of peanut butter with about 2 sandwiches worth in it, as well as the Welches grape jelly jar in the fridge. There is a partial loaf of bread with 4 slices left in the pantry also.

Here is my dilemma. There is also a brand new jar of peanut butter, and red red raspberry preserves in the pantry. As well as a new loaf of bread.

My wife isn't home...........

What would you do?

Doesn't matter, ARCH, you'll be wrong regardless ... unless your wife is the exception (probably so)

Better to hide the evidence washed, than to have MrsB on ya!!

I happen to know that beautiful mind of hers, we women just do...

Do you ever use your saved jars?? Like to put screws or nails in them? Or closed superglue so it stays fresh and doesn’t seal shut never to be opened again??
Or at Christmas to make little lited ornament snow balls!! Great food r your grand baby.. A snow globe made by pops...

Best get busy there or you’ll be in more trouble...

Crack a beer and wait for her to get home so she can make it.
