If the coal industry can deliver the goods, I'd be all for it. We have enough coal for centuries. The improvements that has been made seem to be too expensive to compete with other sources of energy. I think that the federal government in partnership with state governments should give those millions of dollars to community colleges for the reeducation of people that work in coal mines. Its not easy to change a way of life, but in the long run, it would be better for everybody.

The liberals fell in love with clean coal as it had many promises but even their magic wand couldn't make it clean enough to suit their tastes. Rather than partner with the coal industry and throwing a few millions their way to keep clean it up they decide solar, which is great for a watch battery.

Coal in this country has cut it's emissions by about 50%. We use 12% of the world's coal and only produce about 5% or so of the emissions. The coal industry has made great strides, and is (or was ) making more, but that's not good enough for the Obama EPA. He must have some more solar buddies who need a 500 million dollar grant so they can go bankrupt with the CEOs, who just happened to be heavy contributors to the Obama campaign, can bail with multi-million dollar parachutes. That is the EPA: Corruption R Us.

It's also a great way to reward one's financial supporters.

I believe the problem is the feds, just get out of the way and let industry do it. It will never be 100% clean and they should learn to live with that. While we've cleaned ours up most of the world does little to clean it up.

Correction: Most of the world, which is producing around 95% or so of the coal pollution, is doing NOTHING to clean up. The EPA has destroyed our coal industry for maybe a 5% reduction, an industry that was already complying.

So why we ban the stuff the rest of the world burns it, no wonder we can't compete. Now I'm not saying burn it with no regulations, just use their heads.

That must change. It is only a matter of time before the world recognizes that is in everyones enlightened interest to switch to more earth friendly energy. Maybe when beach front property goes on sale in Ohio, or pineapples from Russia are available in the supermarket people will smarten up.

All responders have made some good points but, I think, your thoughts are too limited and focused on pollution. We can make no pollution, period; because the cost of doing so will make our goods and services unsalable in this global economy. due to the cost of pollution reduction. If we can't sell our goods and services our population will leave the cities and go to the farmland to raise their own food. There would be no entitlements, no nothing. Whereas other nations could and will make their products much cheaper because their energy costs will be far less. Cheap energy is vital to the success of this country. Costly energy will kill it. The EPA

Not really buying it. Coal in a natural resource and is releasing back what it got from the environment.

The environment has changed over the past billion plus years. I don't think that you would be very comfortable to be in a world where there is a lot more sulphur and carbondioxide in the atmosphere.

Either we would have adapted, evolved, to it or we may have gone the way of the dinosaurs.

I choose to adapt, this world was here a very long time and got along just fine before man came aboard.
