Can you explain to me why that secret had to be kept all this time? I do remember that day and the ensuing ones where I always had to wonder about it and why the man went about 180 degrees from where he should have when he got hit from behind. However, I was stupid enough to accept their story although I thought it was pure government crap.

Thousands of different people giving more thousands of pages of testimony, much of which will be mutually exclusive that will be unable to be affirmed or dis-affirmed because the parties have died. Your question is legit. An old biography I read about Dulles' sister, Eleanor Dulles, mentioned Harriman as their father's relative, of whom I assumed was a grandparent, has turned out to be a cousin several generations back through the Marvin sisters:
