Alcoholism runs in my family. My grandfather was a railroader traveling from town to town and bar to bar. My father actually could not drink more than one beer with out becoming sick. Somewhere in between I fit. My first full time job was in heavy smoke stack industry and my co workers soon initiated me into what was expected of me. I was well on my way to being my grandfather, when a few years in, I had my first full blown sick fest. A few of those saved me from being a drunk. I can drink heavy from time to time, but I learned not to do it too often. Which gets me back to gin. It is the only thing I never got sick on. I just fall over and they scoop me up and put me to bed.

When I was in college, lo these decades past, I once went to a party and got drunk on gin. That was the first and last time I ever drank gin. Some 45 years later I still get sick if I even smell it strongly.
I have never gotten a hangover from Vodka, probably because I would get hammered before I drank enough to really get a hangover.
LIfe is much simpler since I don't drink anymore. After several years of being unable to because of my medication, I lost my taste for it. My doctor said I could have a beer if I wanted one. I bought one and after about one or two sips I poured it out. There is no damn justice. Now that I am off the meds and can drink again, I don't want to. Shit.

My doctors are always trying to get me to quit. But life without beer is almost no life at all. Well, there still are women, even for an older man like me. But back to beer. Microbrews are often great, IPAs, Pale Ales, Red Ales, Porters, Stouts, Pilsners, Lagers, European, Asian, the list goes on. But no non alcholic, Belgiums, Weiss, flavored or light beers.

cheers

I go 6 months between drinks and then will sometime over due it. I find that 2 beers at bedtime allows me to sleep very well. Again, gin has been very kind to me. Vodka and especially rum accounted for most of the embarrassing stories friends and relatives continue to bring up 30 and 40 years after the fact.

Wine seems to be where the richer folks in my cabal are going. The long time winos like very dry wines. I guess I just have not developed like I should because I like my wines as sweet as cough syrup which freaks everybody else out.

Take some NyQuil. It'll help you sleep well.

On wine I agree with you, the better the wine the more I hate it. Give me some cheap sweet wine, or jack daniels.

I rarely drink liquor...but when I do, I prefer Crown Royal or occasionally, Southern Comfort...maybe a spiced rum.

My brother loved Crown Royal, I like rum and coke without the spice.

I guess I do not drink enough wine to get my taste buds converted. All of my rich wine friends like wine so dry that a lemon would be jealous. Every time my wife and I try to buy wines for those friends as gifts, it always ends badly. Beer is so much easier to give as a present.

Presently I am fighting a chest cold and my best friend is Roba tussin. The Quils and Musinex have not worked for me. I just watched an old episode of the Beverly Hill Billies and Granny had a sure fire cure for colds. I sure wish the old girl was still around.

Thanks, Moldy. We will be camping from the 9th of November thru the 12th. We always celebrate USMC Birthday/Veteran's Day together.
