Good explanation.. I have been floundering around trying to make a statement that the right wingers could understand..

This is far better and they will hate it.. great post..

LOL... I keep hoping that some of the people caught up in the effort to drown out the point of the protest will at some point realize how that violates the spirit of American freedom. Not everyone will, I get that. Some people will continue to fight for social injustice and racial inequality until the day they croak. (Those are the one's I'm ignoring)

Every so often I tune into Fox News to get their perspective on things. And so I saw Carl Tuckerson posing a question to a guest. Here it is (paraphrased)

If they want to protest, why not write a letter or gather in a park..? Why do they have to use the flag?

It's difficult for me not to assume he's being an ass but I'll save you guys the elaboration and just answer the question.

The reason why these athletes have chosen the flag and the anthem is because the STADIUM is their platform, so...

1. There's lots of people there to watch superstars
2. The athletes ARE the superstars
3. There's a flag and anthem tradition
4. There's national media coverage

These athletes recognize the flag and the anthem as the most important of these things, as most Americans do, BECAUSE, just like us, they have been taught to honor the flag and the anthem. So they use quiet and respectful gestures to draw attention to racial inequality and police brutality while the anthem gives context to the gestures.

There is nothing irreverent about quietly taking a knee. For thousands of years people have dropped a knee before a king or an altar as a gesture of reverence and appeal. And it's appropriate because their protest *IS* an appeal to the American people and our constitutional system. That isn't represented by the audience of football fans or the crowd around them... Our republic is represented by that flag and the anthem that brings our attention to it.

So please Carl, don't cheapen the flag by turning it into a political device. Instead, validate the honor of the flag by considering the grievances of the citizen kneeling before it.

Ok, Mr. Genius; What, exactly is "fascist" about the conservatives-- those you call *the right* (as opposed I suppose to the *wrong?)?

From January 1, 2012 to September 17, 2014, 33 NFL players were arrested on charges involving domestic violence, battery, assault and murder. At least 15 were arrested for violence against women. (www.si.com/nfl/2014/09/11)

In 2015 alone, 31 NFL players arrested, including six instances of domestic violence, five DUIs, three guns/weapons charges, and one shocking case of animal abuse which featured Prince Shembokilling. As a student at Notre Dame he also allegedly assaulted a student at St. Mary's College who killed herself 2 weeks later.

132 players have been arrested multiple times since 2000.

These players are paid unbelievable amounts of money to play a game. Colin Kaepernick began his "knee" protest because of racial oppression and inequality. He is neither oppressed nor has he been treated in equally. He is the epitomy and perfect example of fair and impartial treatment.

I've had mixed emotions about this. On the one hand. I respect our right to free speech and to make choices for ourselves. On the other, in doing it this way shows some lack of respect for the flag and the country. I would recommend people go through the proper channels to make their complaints. This is not the way to do it. Still... they do have the right....

Yes, they do have the right to be disrespectful and insulting, but they also must understand the consequence just might be they are going to bankrupt the business.

And, it IS a business.

I think it is a reflection of how childish our society has become, and how, if everything isn't exactly the way WE think it should be we throw a fit or a temper tantrum. If there is brutality in the police department there are proper channels to go through to address that. And the same goes with other things. Our flag is not responsible for any ills in our society. People live and die daily both past and future for that flag. So it is a form of desecration. No one now days seems to understand the use of proper channels any more. They are ready to riot every time things don't go the way THEY think they should. It is disappointing and could lead to the dissolution of our freedom and values. We think we are so smart, and yet we look at everything at surface level only and we are being manipulated by the elite who wish to create divisions in this country and ultimately destroy it.
