Quit trying to confuse the symbolism of taking a knee on the playing of the national anthem. It has zero to do with a "gesture of reverence and appeal" and everything to do with a lack of respect for what the flag symbolizes - freedom.
Well, you ARE allowed to have your own opinion.

The "grievances of the citizens" shouldn't be displayed at an entertainment event where the audience has paid good money to be entertained.
Again, that's your opinion.
waltmoreno wrote:
To the entertainers, I say entertain. And if you want to do something other than entertain, then the audience shouldn't be charged.
The audience paid for two hours of football and that's what they got. If the two minutes before the game where the players took a knee pisses off a spectator to the point that he can't enjoy the game, that's his own fault. If he spent those two minutes honoring the flag instead of looking around to see what the players are doing he wouldn't have even seen them. So stop overreacting.

After all, if you want me to listen to your political views, then why should I have to pay anything? Especially if I disagree with those views.
Don't buy tickets... problem solved.

Our flag represents the highest ideals possible of any country in the history of mankind.
Not exactly... the flag represents the United States of America. Whether the United States of America achieves the highest ideals possible for any country in the world is a matter of opinion.

Our country is not perfect because, in the final analysis, all countries are made up of people - and people are imperfect.
I'll interrupt you there to give myself an opportunity to agree with you.

But to greater degree than other country on earth, we've more than made up for our past mistakes.
And, we're back to the bullshit. I never understood this jingoist attitude where we insist we are better than anyone else. It compels people like you to say the stupidest things. Why can't we just be decent?

Question: when will these entertainers quit taking a knee and disrespecting our flag? When social injustice no longer exists in our society? Because it will always exist, even to some slight degree.
That's a good question and yes, social injustice will always exist, but as you suggest it can vary in degree. Maybe they will stop when they can see that degree change, even slightly. But don't expect the American people to back down just because they're told to. Our founders didn't exactly break free of their colonial yoke by accepting social injustice just because they were told to.

The answer to this question tells me that these entertainers will ALWAYS have a reason to be disrespecting the flag. Because perfection will never be achieved as long as people are still in flesh bodies.
And hence, like any cancerous existence, these 'entertainers' should be removed from the body for the good of the body.
But as long as there is social injustice there will always be entertainers who advocate social change. So you just defeated your own argument with your own logic.

The body politic has a much better chance of fully healing itself without the disruption caused by these outlier pockets of inflammation. Remove the inflammation, and the body returns to normal. Simple.
So... racial profiling and police brutality can continue to exist without being questioned. Well, not to put too fine a point on this, but fuck your normal.
