I matured with a father married 4 times, lived with grandmothers on both sides, aunts and uncles on both sides of the family
In other words, " kicked around like a football ". I went to so many different churches, I lost count. Dad's 2nd wife was a Greek.
Deana, a beautiful woman,I attended Greek Orthodox church. I didn't understand them as it was in Greek.
They kissed a picture as you entered and a guy walked up and down the isle with incense smoke.
I never did make a Jehovah Witness church with no windows in the building { still don't understand this}
Anyway after growing up in all the various denominations I grew ' confused ' .
Then I grew up with Oral Roberts here in Tulsa. I recall his radio srman and by puting your hand on the radio you can feel
the vibrations of the Holy Spirit.
I have attended congregations where they
' Speak in Tongues ' and this is quite the experience...
Some guys on TV reminded me of Used Car salesman...
Now many here in T-town have lighted billboards out front- advertising like a business.
Hell, they are businesses with 501(C)3 federal tax exemption benefits. Most are Incorporated, gotta be ...
Yes, there most definitely is an "Intelligent Design''.
To me the Bible tells of 3 things 1, History, 2. How to live and 3. prophesy.

Sounds like you were saved JW--just in the nick of time. The problem with Christianity is that it isn't based on following Christ. Ironic, don't you think!

It should be based on following Christ, but isn't.

I guess the problem is that there are too many definition for being a Christian. Back in my day a Christian was someone who walked in the footprints of Christ. Today though actually following Christ doesn't seem to be a requirement. Today, Christians seem to be too busy denigrating their fellow man to love him--and if you can't be bothered to treat others as Christ would have you truly accepted him into your heart?

Whoa! You are showing your bigotry here. Do you have to blame all Christians for the actions of a few?? Some really do strive to become more Christ-like.

Your conviction was stolen from you by a church that does not practice what they preach.. You blame God for their action when you should have blamed and held accountable the people of this supposed Christian church..

Perhaps God saw you were above them and cleared the way of your exit and showing you at the same time, the false prophet , who was not BTW, God..

How strong were you really in your faith if this was enough to shatter it??

I do hope you find your balance..
Christian churches are supposed to be Gods church and God is the CEO(chief executive officer) which makes me wonder why he doesn't clean up the mess in his church. If I was CEO in my company and let the company go to pot I would be fired or voted out. I have always been suspicious of this whole business or religion. It is no wonder that you have so many non-believers in the world today.

As a young man, I was an ardent Christian. At age fourteen, I was leading Sunday evening services in our fundamentalist church, appointed to do so by our pastor and approved by the church board. The Bible was always at my right hand and I could provide a ready verse to answer most any question.

Then one day, I was summoned to the church in the middle of the week. I was pleased to be regarded in such manner that my presence was requested at a special meeting. Beaming with pride, I entered the sanctuary and took a seat as I was directed.

It was only moments before it became clear that my presence there had an ominous tone to it. I had been summoned, not as a valued member of the congregation but as the accused at an inquisition. I had no idea why I was there and no one was explaining anything. I had arrived in time for the sentencing.

I was summarily expelled from the church along with the entire family of a friend. The pastor's parting words to us were that God grants the power to his ministers to pray for the removal of 'thorns in his side'. I was sixteen at that time, a dedicated Christian, and I had just been threatened with Heavenly retribution for a crime I was still ignorant of having committed.

It was several days later when I finally learned of the terrible deeds I had reportedly taken part in.

My friend and another boy, also a friend, had collected several empty liquor bottles and, as a prank had placed them on the parsonage outside front stairs. When the pastor awoke in the morning and found the collection in his doorway, he was furious. He established an investigation, uncovered the part played by my co-ejectee and under pressure to disclose his partner in this crime, my friend named me.

If I was truly innocent, why was I named? Because the actual perpetrator of the crime, the coconspirator in the dastardly deed was the steady boyfriend of the minister's oldest daughter. Had my friend named him, the repercussions on that relationship would have been devastating and he didn't want that responsibility.

I eventually was allowed to rejoin the church but the experience broke my hold on religious devotion. I was then free to consider issues my previous mindset would not allow.

The general behavior of professing Christians, like too many of those posting here, was remarkably un-Christlike. They demonstrated a cavalier disregard for the admonitions of Christ to humility, temperance in all things and service to God and fellow man. They were arrogant, abrasive and discourteous to the point of being ready and willing to cast the first stone and relishing the act with a viciousness that has also become far too common here. Too many of them seem to view Christ's sacrifice as nothing more than a 'get out of Hell free card'. As long as their prayers include a mandatory mea culpa each night, they can continue their selfish and abusive behavior with abandon.

I have abandoned Christianity because it has become a jealous hag where once it was a powerful warrior of the Word. The Shepard's flock is now mostly ravenous wolves in sheep's garb, pretenders whose aim is no longer to serve God and fellow man but to chastise, abuse and belittle. They personify the Pharisee's prayer...

No, not all Christians behave poorly. The church's foundation is still solid but the structure is in serious need of renovation. Meanwhile, I continue to look for substance in this universe but find very little.
As a young man, I was an ardent Christian. At age ... (show quote)

I so regret what happened to that sixteen year old boy by a group of adults who forgot about innocent until proven guilty, who didn't give you a chance to defend yourself before
man and God. I've never been in a church sush as this, but I would consider them what they are and get on with my life in Christ.. I can see that was a crushing blow to a young and Godly man. May God have mercy on their sorry souls.

JW, that is a sad story, but a it seems you had the Joel Osteen syndrome, which is"don't worry be happy"and fell into Satan's trap. When Satan sees Christians like you, He attacts them, and most of the time it works. Consider yourself LUCKY that he did not attact you like he attacted Jesus' apostles where all of them were killed except for John that died of natural causes. The Devil got it done, he doesn't go to bars and houses of ill repute to recruite people, those are his already, he goes to Churches. He assaulted you, and you blame Christianity. You see how he works. Believe me you are not the only one that it happened to.

So you allowed an organized "religious" Christian church to drive you from Christ?
Seems you needed a bit more study and prayer.
Obviously you were not at the right church.
IMO; good ones can be hard to find.
You threw out the baby with the bath water.
I hope you figure that out.

DUH!!! pappadeux, I thought you were smarter then that. Just becaus they"claime"to be God's Church, doesn't make them God's Church, and like I was telling JW, the Devil doesn't work on bars, red light districts and such those are already his. He knows where he can do more evil. First he makes our government take prayer out of schools the passes a law that allows the murder of unborn innocent babies, then changes God's law on marriage allowing men to marry, next the government will call God's Word"Hate Speech". God gave us FREE WILL, He didn't make us robots. You can't blame God on that. I blame Christians for that.

You are mostly right. I was pointing out that I compare "God" to the tender of his flock who is not there to do his 'tending'.

I totally agree. I never condemn a person for their beliefs or attempt to change their thinking to mine. Matter of fact, I honor their right to believe as they will. I don't find this same respect coming from the other side.

Okay! What did you do with the real Alicia? She condemns every conservative for their beliefs, resorts to name calling, and has never honored anyone 'on the right.' Do you really think that the right is more disrespectful than the left? Neither side can claim innocence!!!!! If you can't admit this, then you're not being honest with yourself or anyone else!

Well Satan's army of abortionist, and gay rights people, have the media, Hollywood, the Democrat Party, and many Republicans, and some preachers on their side. While the rest of us have a few Churches, a little miniscure media, on our side,so they win!.............Until our Lord and Savior,Jesus Christ comes, and gives us the victory. Come Lord Jesus, come.

I agree completely! It is time for every Christian to put on the armor of God every morning! The assault by the Devil will get worse as time goes by. We must stand together and fight to keep the right to outwardly believe and worship God, and to stop the assault of God from our government. I don't really know how much more that God will put up with before he puts his foot down!!!!!
