Hawking, well read as he may be, missed the 1st chapter, 1st verse, of the greatest book ever recorded: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." (Genesis 1:1)
I was not speaking about Christianity as a religion, which it is not, nor was I referring to it as man-made, as it is God's conduit for a relationship with Him, through faith in Jesus Christ.
All the rites and rituals, candles and costumes that have been added, are superfluous man-made drivel.

Religion is just a convenient vehicle for Christians. Religion isn't even necessary.
