May I honor and salute Gen Lee, one of the most the brilliant generals of US history.
Birth 1/19/1807, in Stratford Hall, VA.
1829 he graduated West Point with high academic achievements, 2nd honor,
He was a member of the Army Corps of Engineers
1846-1848 he commanded the Mexican American war
1852-1855 became the Superintendent of West Point.
Served US Army from 1829 to 1861.
1855-1857 acting head of the US Cavalry in Texas.
1860-1861 commanded the US Marines at Harper Ferry, West Virginia.
1861 President Lincoln offered him to command the US Army but he declined, could not abandon his people and his birth place.
1861 After West Virginia seceded from the Union, Lee resigned from the US Army, commanded the Confederate
1865. Due to lack of man power, food and supplies, surrendered in peace to Gen. Ulysses Grant.
Later he accepted president of Washington College, now called the Lee University.
In the college he incorporated the Lexington Law school, encourage development of science and programs for business instructions.
He built the Lee Chapel at the university.
Gen. Lee hated slavery.
He died Oct. 12, 1870.
