The founding fathers laid out a system that, if adhered to, would have kept the nation on the straight and narrow. As pointed out, anyone who can fog a mirror is voting. The founders put restrictions on who could vote, those restrictions should still apply. As for holding our elected leader's feet to the fire, I think those in the political system have figured out that diversity is their best friend. There are so many different factions wanting this and wanting that, that, no one group can create the pressure that's needed to hold any one of them accountable. The only time any of these guys get primaried is if the party leadership becomes unhappy with them. It's usually someone attempting to do the right thing that causes their falling out of favour with party leadership.
