Two times now I remember the liberals howling for a popular vote because a Republican won the election.

What say you?... Let us all know... take the poll:
(it's simple even a liberal can do it)

That is how it was designed to work.

The OP question begs another question: Would you prefer living in a pure democracy or a republic?

Before answering I would suggest a brief sojourn into the histories of pure democracies where the reasoning for a republic should come clearly into view.

It is also called 'mob rule' and is anathema to survival. The 'tyranny of the masses' is demonstrated every election in New York State as well as others where great masses of liberal urban democrats decide to have their own preferences by shear numbers dominating everyone else.

EX: Cuomo's S-A-F-E act..

My vote is for a Republic for which we stand, pure and simple.

Republic and electoral college avoids the tyranny of the majority. Democracy is two wolves and a sheep arguing over what to have for dinner. In fact, one of the worst things we did was ratify the 17th(?) amendment that made election of Senators by popular vote instead of state legislatures. We should repeal it.

NYS senators would grant wisdom to that statement.

The other thing I'd like states to seriously consider is an electoral college set-up. That would accomplish a lot to balance the incredible urban influence.

You are exactly right about the 17th Amendment, it has destroyed the sovereignty of the states, and created much more power for the federal government over the American people. Strange how it always seems that the results of some of our laws turn out to be the opposite of the reason we made those laws, like raising taxes causes less collected revenue, and cutting taxes creates more collected revenue, just as an example. It's called "unexpected consequences".

There is only one~~ A Republic~~

a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch.

As it is written, so it is and will be!!!

On your quiz, 88% voted Republic..

Article I, section 3, "The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each state, chosen by the legislature thereof for six Years; and each Senator shall have one Vote." The election of delegates to the Constitutional Convention established the precedent for state selection...

Why do you believe they did this??
