I had to help care for a family member who had Alzheimer's. Believe, me, I know what you are going through. I hate to say it, but it was a relief to everyone when this family member finally passed.

Looks like there are fewer real people on OPP than I thought! My thanks to the people who responded and thank you so much for sharing. I guess I can emphasize with most folks.... we are just trying to meet each day with as much good spirit we can manage. Keep your chin up, we are facing the same issues that those who have now been long gone and tomorrow will only bring more of the same!

As a matter of fact, you can congratulate me. I had a plumbing problem at my home. I repaired it as well as any $80/hour plumber, and it only took me three trips to the hardware store to finally get the correct fittings. Es verdad!

Threats to our nation, threats on our President, North Korea, the Russian hacking (?) are all important and like most folks I have thought about these issues daily. But, I still have had time to ponder other things. I am sure you have too.

I have been thinking about OPP and its membership. With the latest "confession" of an OPP member (right before he put me on his ignore list) that they have two identities on OPP, I wonder just how many real people there are on OPP? I suspect that the real population is very small.... my guess, less than 100.... or dare I say it, about 30 people. I think the rest are Doppelgängers. How about you? Real or a Doppelgänger?

The second thing, again dealing with OPP and the ignore list. Why is it that people put you on their "ignore" list as if they see you as a nonperson, someone that they can certainly live without, yet they read your threads and provide feedback and comments? Does this strike anyone else as being more than dishonest?

Now tell me... aside from politics what have you been using your gray cells for?

real or imagined? I guess it depends on a person's perspective. I'm real, I have only the one account here and no others.

I haven't been posting or reading here long enough to have put anyone on the ignore list. But on other type forums I have. Why, have I used it in other places? Not because I don't think the person has value or is a 'non-person' but it gets old people calling you a 'racist or bigot' and many other such things merely because you have different views on life. I disagree w/ the group Black lives matter and what they stand for (overall) which in reading their agenda is not really about 'all black lives' but only certain black lives--thus they and others including members of my own family began the mantra of 'racist, bigot, ect. ect. ect., thus they are now ignored. Such words are used in order to shut another person up..so it's not that I don't see value in them, it's quite the opposite, they do not see the value in me, where they refuse to hear my views, my opinions by name calling and trying to shut down another perspective--so I set up boundaries and gates to protect myself from their lies and such against me. I don't need the negativity around me.

As far as my grey matter, other than politics it's been on being thankful to God for protecting my niece and her family during a break-in, my 17 year old dog who is not doing well. Praying for my all my kids, one of my son-in-laws had a really bad bout of sepsis, praising God he is better, another son-in-law just graduated college so praising God on that. Praying for my family in the death of my uncle who was husband/father/grandfather/brother/friend. Praying for my cousin in the death of her son (both died last week). Praying for my son's girl-friend who starts a new job this next week. Praying for another daughter and her husband who are traveling. Lots of things going on here..other than politics..

I believe I am real. I do however have multiple identities and I am a different person to different people. The persona I present here is a written fabrication, more erudite than ordinary speech, because there is no face in front of me to provide feedback. When you can see the boredom in the eyes of your audience it stifles expression and full engagement of critical faculties. I like writing.

I do not use other identities on this forum simply because of laziness. I have often thought it would be amusing to adopt a different personality to plague some of our notorious dolts and poltroons. The work involved is daunting and I am just not that interested in jerking the chains of twinkies.

My thoughts in recent years have turned to apocalypse, of the man made type. It occurred to me that in the event of a global disaster, if we were knocked back to reliance on our own knowledge and strength that most of us would starve. Or, we would succumb to thirst or contaminated water, which we would not know how to purify. The basic elements, to maintain life are a deep mystery for most urbanites. I have collected quite a library of useful information and I have studied much of the material -- uselessly because I would likely die in the first wave of disaster and take my knowledge with me. It pleases me and occupies my time

I have also been engaged in writing vignettes of my earliest years, simply because the life we led will never be repeated again. They were times of terror, sorrow and joy. The next generation, if they still read, will be able to look at the moments of my life and get some comprehension of what our times were about. If I do my work well they will wonder at the simplicity and richness of our lives and if I do poorly they will sneer at how backward we were. In either event, I will not be here to see it. For the moment it provides me with a recapitulation of the defining moments, of my life, some introspection and evaluation of my behavior. Who knows, I may yet find myself wanting in humanity.

I'm real. No Doppelganger here Pennylynn.

As for what I'm up to at the moment. The wife and I are debating if we want to sell our home in the country,
as our children want, and move into or, closer to Spokane WA. 5 of our children live in Spokane and one lives in the state of Maine. If we do move, that means doing the one thing I hate the most to do. Being from the old school, the wife and I save everything. I even have a box of old bent nails I saved, 55 years ago. Telling myself, " one day, I may need them." And with 6 children, 11 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren, and I believe we will be Great, great grandparents soon, keeps us very busy.
