I have a number of used books which I purchased from the local libraries used book stor and these quite often have stamps or labels identifying them as property of some group. These books are usually sold by the originating library or donated by the library or group. The identifier labels can't be removed without damage in most cases so it does not always mean it is stolen.

I bought an embosser which fixes a big fancy raised seal stating "From The Library Of --------". I use this on all my books so that when I lend one and it never comes back the user will know from whom it was stolen.

Thanks for recognizing that Ken, I have been accused of being a Liberal quite a few times lately. I ascribed that to my tendency to think for myself and reject ridiculous extremist statements whether from the right or the left. We complain that the Progressives all parrot the cant, which is the current party line, but quite often I see the right wing engaging in the same mindless support of untenable positions. Challenging these issues gets me labeled a leftist.

Good idea. I have had a few books I valued much for their content. I also have a few books I will never allow out of my house. I think I should discover their value and sell them now so that my executor(s) are not screwed.

I do have one that was borrowed from the local library which I thought was stolen from my car. I attempted to duplicate it and was unable to locate anything other than a second edition which was highly watered down. I compared them and they DON'T compare. I'm grateful that the original was rediscovered. BTW, I did purchase the 2nd edition and brought it back to the library. They were very appreciative. I still have the original. I did make an attempt to follow it down and came up with nothing. BUT I still own it.

I did have a rather large library at one time but now I feel the need to lighten up on my possessions. I guess that comes with getting older without the desire to leave anything to kin whom I believe don't deserve it.

Sorry, It seemed like a good opportunity to me to dispense a little wisdom. & Here is some more:

When defeated by a superior intellect, explaining a superior ideology just ignore the post containing the wise words you can't refute and go back to an earlier post and repeat your self making an issue out of that with a a personal ad hominem attack. Why don't you start listening to, and aligning yourself with those who have Truth, Honesty and Integrity as their prime values. That way you won't have to make such obvious diversions to skirt around the issue that is far more important than the subject of the article.
