Most of the founders were slave owners and laughed at the notion of women doing anything but bearing children. And you do understand that the founders were split over how they thought the country should be governed. Those who believed an agrarian economy and a small government rallied around Jefferson and those who believed in capitalism and a large central government rallied around Hamilton and Adams. And if you were unaware it is the Adams side of the coin that landed heads up so exactly what is it that the founders are going to roll over in their graves that wouldn't have caused them to do the same back then?

And once again--Fascism is authoritarian and Communism is Totalitarian. Authoritarianism places power in one man whereas Totalitarianism places power in the state. Look at Nazi Germany--everything centered around Hitler whereas with the Soviet Union once Stalin died the state continued unchanged. In terms of ideology conservatives tend to support authoritarian systems and liberals tend to support totalitarian systems of government. And while the end result of both is similar the two are not the same so please stop conflating them...

As for exposing your enemies if you can't understand the difference between authoritarianism and totalitarianism then how is it you are going to be able to recognize your "enemies" based on those characteristics?

Jefferson believed in an agrarian economy and a small government--the reason being farms were so far spread out that dependence on government would be pointless. For Jefferson the only thing government should provide is roads, schools, and a postal service. He was even opposed to a freestanding army and dismantled his only to regret it during the War of 1812.

It was Adams and Hamilton who supported a large central government mainly because they thought Capitalism needed a strong government and financial institutions else it would devolve into economic chaos...

A Constitutional Republic based on Democracy if you want to get specific. That changes nothing about what I said though--from day one there were different factions that tried to pull our country in different directions. Adams and Hamilton saw a strong central government and a Capitalistic economic system. Jefferson saw a small government and an agrarian economic system. Adams and Hamilton won and the result is the country that we have today--that's what I learned in school...

Well Eagle I am glad you are neither a D or an R but what I was speaking of was ideology that molded ones political philosophy not the political party that you happened to be attached to. I have yet to meet anyone who was able to escape the trap of having an ideology and when we speak of that then it is simply a matter of propensity of one or the other--how conservative you are vs how liberal.

You are correct. Adams did support a large centralized government. I doubt if he could have invisioned anything like today's. The people on both sides of the issue were as polarized then as we are now.
