Free cars. Seriously. If it was anywhere but California, I would never have believed it. Free. Freaking. Cars.

"The $1.3 million used to pay for what the Sacramento Bee calls a "mini fleet," came from the state's California Environmental Protection Agency, which in turn got the money by blackmailing local businesses with cap-and-trade fines."

And the State is paying for the electricity it runs on, maintenance, repairs and even insurance. This is, literally, free. As in not costing the entitled little government teat-sucker a freaking penny, because local businesses are being blackmailed by their own State government EPA. How sick is that?

Here's the rest of it, if you can hold your food down:

Free b cars /b . Seriously. If it was anywhere ... (show quote)

Does that mean that public housing residents can take their little ZipCars and trade up for, say, a Cadillac. Or maybe just sell or trade them for drugs.....and keep taking public transportation like good little environment stewards.

That article just blew my mind away. What a way to keep those poor people on the government payroll and votes for the liberals. Nothing good will come of this project.

Oh, no. The cars don't actually belong to them. They still belong to the State but the beneficiary gets assigned one and the State covers all costs; operating, maintenance and legal. All the beneficiary does is drive. Bonus; no more bus fares to pony up for. Yay! More drug money!

Join the club. I thought it was a parody or something (the Onion, anyone?) but it actually checks out as legitimate reporting! Un-freaking-believable!

Is there a reason that you care what the city of Sacramento does with those on public assistance? Move to Sacramento and get a free car too...

Just don't get it, do you? Did you read either of the articles I linked to? I doubt it or you would not be advising me to "move to Sacramento and get a free car too". Well, get this, nice and clear so the whole world can see it, even you: I don't want nor do I need a free anything from government! Firstly, it ain't free. Local Sacramento businesses are being blackmailed by the California equivalent of the EPA in order to pay for this outrageous boondoggle. How many of those businesses will still be there in a couple of years after they've had the opportunity to get out? I wouldn't stay under those conditions, would you? When they do finally move away from that 'den of socialist vipers', they'll take good paying jobs with them. Chew on that for a minute or two. Secondly, once the businesses are gone, the 'free cars' cash cow will dry up and the City will be stuck with a fleet of electric cars it has no use for and cannot afford to sustain. Then what? All because the City of Sacramento decided it was a good idea to blow millions of ill-gotten dollars on free cars for the homeless.

Sacramento. A disaster. Just like watching a slow-motion train wreck. I'll stay right here, thank you very much.

Gosh a disaster. I didn't realize. And I have to wonder--as bad as you say it is--how is it the worlds 6th largest economy just keeps growing and growing? Shouldn't it be shrinking and shriveling into nothingness?

Did you know that businesses need employees who have dependable transportation? In fact I know more than a few who won't hire anyone if they don't have dependable transportation. Just saying. And you should stay where you are. California isn't for conservatives. No, I've even heard that some cities in California will find people jobs and even pay to relocate them. Can you imagine that? They say it's pays for itself in the long run because fewer people are draining the social safety net making it stronger in the long run. But you guys don't need a social safety net do you. Nah, you guys are tough as nails and can do it all on your own can't you. Well, good for you. If you guys weren't such phony pricks your behavior might even be worth emulating...

Smells like victory? You guys are phony pricks. Red states lead the nation in welfare and there are more whites on the public dole than any other race. An ad hominem attack, attacks the messenger to deflect from the truth. I didn't do that but simply called you what you are. Conservatives talk tough but any time I've had to lay anyone off they run after public assistance as fast as anyone else. And the question is--why not? Why let your family suffer when there are avenues to soften the blow and if anything, is a little payback for all the taxes you been paying up to this point?

Oh, and by the way, if you read the article provided by moldy you totally mischaracterized what was actually taking place--and my bet is you did so on purpose. The only thing free was the use of the cars. The cars them selves remained property of the government. You made it sound like the government was sitting there handing out cars as if they were popsicles. My question is why couldn't you start a thread that represented the truth? Why are you trying to slander people who's only crime was trying to take advantage of a program that bettered their quality of life, if for only a moment, and did nothing at all to diminish yours? Talk about being a phony prick that would pretty much be the definition right there--you are lying in an effort to diminish those who are less fortunate than you. If that's not being a prick just what would be?

Ad hominem:
Adverb. (Of an argument or reaction) directed against a person rather than the position they are maintaining. In other words; deflection by name-calling. Therefore, by default, Victory! But still, let's take a look at your name-calling prowess, shall we?

"Phony":
Noun. A fraudulent person or thing

"Prick":
Noun. Vulgar slang, a penis.

A 'fraudulent penis'. Hmm... Dildo, perhaps? Not possible. Based solely on the fact that I am typing this, I can categorically deny the veracity of that statement. That should have been patently obvious to you even before you made that assertion, ergo, Victory! again. Two victories on one topic, and it's not even 5AM yet. I must be on a roll...

They do not emit as much pollution as a gasoline fueled car except where the electricity is produced by renewable sources like wind and solar. How many areas are there that produce this kind of energy?
