I’m posting here to note that the Ben Stein piece has been posted, added to, rearranged, and reposted in different forms since his original 2005 reading on TV.

Most of the portion posted here was not actually part of his reading, and not written by him, based on comparisons to the original, and investigation into the annual reposting of versions.

I realize some people say Snopes has a liberal bent and is not trustworthy. I don’t know how to feel about that. I’ve read enough of their work that provides decent source links and easily verifiable data, and I think this Ben Stein analysis is one of those.
