Jonathan Cahn on America: Historic ParallelsAre there are any historic parallels between Israel and the United States?
To answer that question, were were blessed to have on our program Christ in Prophecy Messianic Rabbi Jonathan Cahn. Rabbi Cahn is the spiritual leader of the Beth Israel Worship Center in Wayne, New Jersey and best-selling author of the book The Harbinger and a new book titled The Mystery of the Shemitah. Both books have been best sellers and highly controversial in Christian circles.
The Bible teaches that God never pours out His wrath on a nation without first sending remedial judgments and prophetic voices to warn of Godās impending judgment and to call the nation to repentance. Rabbi Cahn believes that when it comes to the United States, God already has been emphatically warning us, and since we havenāt listened, is delivering us from judgment to destruction. And, as always has been the case with anyone who historically speaks out in prophetic manner calling people for repentance, Jonathan has of course been severely attacked.
In this series we are going to discuss his basic message concerning Godās warnings to America and also ask him about some of the accusations that have been hurled against him.
Historic Parallels
Nathan Jones: Do you believe that when it comes to Godās judgment on the nations, that Israel is the model for the world?
Jonathan Cahn: Yes.
Nathan Jones: So any nation would fall under the same judgments as Israel did if that nation rejects God?
Jonathan Cahn: Well, it can. Yes, the thing is that God is consistent, number one. God is the same God. He doesnāt change. And number two, the Bible says what was written to Israel is for us. So, in other words, Israel is the one model we have for anything. God dealt with Israel. Israel is the center of Godās purposes. Anytime you hear a message preached, itās generally something thatās happened to Israel that applies to all of our lives. We see from the Bible that itās not only Israel God has also judged, but other nations back then as well. But, Israel is the template, of course.
Nathan Jones: There are just so many parallels between Godās treatment of Israel and the United States according to your book.
Jonathan Cahn: Itās amazing!
Dr. Reagan: You have pointed those out over and over, and I have over the years too in some of my books that Iāve written. Weāve pointed out that Israel had great spiritual leaders. Iām talking about Judah in particular. They had great spiritual leaders. They had prosperity. They had safety. God blessed them in so many ways, just as He has done with us. But, it ultimately led to p***e and to r*******n, and thatās exactly whatās happening to us as a nation.
You know, Jonathan, there are people I run across ā Christians ā who actually think God sits on His throne wrapped in an America f**g. They say, āOh, God would never touch us. He would never touch us.ā What did the people say to Jeremiah? āGod lives in our temple. He will never touch us.ā Let me tell you, if God will destroy Jerusalem and His very Temple, He will destroy the United States of America. People need to know that.
Jonathan Cahn: Yes, thereās something special about the relationship. There are two extremes. One is to say that thereās nothing special about America, but thatās not true. On the other hand, to say that America is Israel or that the main thing is patriotism, thatās not it either. The main thing is God. There is only one God. Even patriotism can become a god.
The point is that God says that thereās no nation thatās exempt from His judgment. Even Israel itself, which was built by God and had the Temple, was not exempt. The Lord said to Jeremiah to the effect, āYou keep on saying, āThis Temple, this Temple,ā but Iāll destroy this Temple.ā He said to Ezekiel, āYour wife is going to die.ā God was saying that like a death Israelās sin was how much it was hurting him. This judgment then has to happen to Israel.
If judgment happened to Israel, then we here in the United States certainly cannot say we are exempt, rather in fact itās the opposite ā we are in danger! To much that is given, much is required. The more weāve been blessed, the more we are accountable and the more severe the judgment.
In the third segment of our interview with Jonathan Cahn on America, weāll go back into the history of the United States and look at the Puritan Covenant.
And Yahweh appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him,
"I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.
If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land,
or if I send pestilence among my people, if my people, which are called by my name,
shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways,
then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and will heal their land."
