Is Trump finally providing us a chance to see an FBI that is actually held accountable for once?

No, what you are seeing may be the perfect crime in action, something the Founders could have never contemplated: that the President of the United States may have committed high crimes and misdemeanors, but because all federal law enforcement reports indirectly through to him, he can undermine the legitimacy of any investigation that touches upon him simply by denouncing his own law enforcement agencies. And he can do so with impunity, as long as he convinces enough of his supporters that the problem isn’t the man in office, but the people sworn to pursue justice, wherever that leads them.
Why could the Founders not possibly conceive of this? Because they assumed that a rogue president would be called to account by an independent Congress, through, they believed in their naïveté, the separation of powers and the power of impeachment.
Think about that. The separation of powers was the method by which the Founders assumed tyranny would be avoided in the United States. They assumed blatant disregard for the law by a president would be fiercely resisted by the people’s and the states’ representatives. A Congress that looks the other way when criminal investigations are derailed by a president who knows very well that he could end up in their sights is a Congress colluding with tyranny.
That is exactly where we are today. I’m looking at you, Paul Ryan.
I don’t know, dear OP, what you think the FBI needs to be held accountable for. If it has overstepped its bounds then the president has the ability to rein them in, and he should do so by openly revealing what it is that they have done to earn your opprobrium. Trump hasn’t shown that to be the case. He merely accuses them of bias in an investigation that was started long before he became president because of unanimous findings by American intelligence agencies, and the right-wing propaganda machinery parrots that on cue for Trump’s supporters to swallow hook, line and sinker.
How audacious that is. We may have a president who is up to his eyeballs in corruption with a foreign power, and who used that relationship to his own advantage — financially and politically — perhaps for years, who by simply casting aspersions on the integrity of the people who have sworn to uphold justice throughout the Republic might just get away with it all.
And you thought Republicans were the supporters of law enforcement? I guess they are, when one of them k**ls a black person. When they investigate corruption among Republicans, then they are the enemy of the people.
