You just reminded me of something. Although I’m not very religious, I was sent to a school as a child, which had classes in Christianity as well as comparative religious studies. There was a story in the Bible, of which you just reminded me.

Jesus preached against people (like Peter) who were holier than thou, judging the tax collector as being an impious man. I just found it,again.

The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector

9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’

13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

The only Christian group I know of would be the Salvation Army. They put on a big show of helping people when there's natural disasters and the possibility of news cameras around, but if you're homeless and have to go to one of their shelters, MAY GOD HELP YOU!! They run their shelters more like concentration camps, staff members show up on the job with alcohol on their breath and two of the staffwomen were always all over each other right in front of us "clients", as they called us! I wanted yell, "For crying out loud, get a room!", but I knew that I didn't dare to because I would've been kicked out if I did, yet lawfully wedded husband and wife "clients" couldn't so much as touch each other's hands while on Salvation Army property.
Then you have groups such as Red Cross, who showed up to pass out blankets and bottled water when our building caught fire about 5 1/2 years ago. So far as I know, Red Cross is made up of people of all faiths and no faiths, but when one of them draped a blanket over my shoulders and gave me a bottle of water, I didn't ask what faith he was. I was just glad to have that blanket and that bottle of water.

"For I was hungry and you fed Me, thirsty and you gave Me a drink; I was a stranger and you received Me into your homes, naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you took care of Me, in prison and you visited Me. The righteous will answer Him, 'When, Lord, did we ever see You hungry and feed You? Or thirsty and give You a drink? When did we see You a stranger and welcome You into our homes, or naked and clothe You? When did we ever see You sick or in prison and visit You? The King (Jesus, of course) will say, 'I tell you, whenever you did this for the least important of these brothers of mine, you did it for Me'." Matt. 25:35-40
What a crying shame it is when an ATHEIST has to remind Christians what TRUE Christianity is all about! In fact, it's my own opinion that in the end times, Christians won't be persecuted because they're Christians, but because they didn't ACT like Christians when they had the chance.
