Verse of the Day
for Wednesday, April 5, 2023

As for me, I will call upon God; And the LORD shall save me. Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: And he shall hear my voice.
-- Psalm 55:16-17

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
Wow, this Psalm of confidence in God suddenly has a much more powerful ring to it after remembering the resurrection of Christ! God does save us. God does listen to our voices. We can be sure he both hears and acts to bring salvation for us. The only question is whether we call out to God evening, morning, and noon trusting his response.

My Prayer...
Abba Father, I have burdens on my heart about things in my own life that need your grace and power. Please hear my voice and my heart as I share these concerns with you...(Feel free to share your personal concerns today at this point in our prayer.) In addition, dear Father, please place your loving touch on the following people for whom I'm concerned... Thank you for hearing me. Thank you for saving me. Thank you for caring about those for whom I am concerned. In the name of Christ Jesus, my Savior, I pray. Amen.

Verse of the Day
for Monday, April 3, 2023

And after this Joseph of Arimathæa, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus. And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight. -- John 19:38-39

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
The power of Jesus' Cross was demonstrated in the lives of two men, Joseph, the rich man from Arimathea, and Nicodemus, the great teacher of Israel. Neither showed himself fully to be a disciple of Jesus in his earthly ministry. The Cross touched them when nothing else could, just like it has touched us! After Jesus' death, these two personally ensure Jesus is given a proper burial, thus making themselves unclean for the Passover week and proving themselves loyal to the Lord at the worst time for them to do so.

My Prayer...
Righteous Father, I know the Cross was a brutal symbol of being cursed. Yet to me, it is as precious as it is brutal and as beautiful as it was hideous. Through the Cross, you saved me from my sin and showed how much you loved me. Thank you! Please use my life in some small way to glorify you and your indescribable gift at Calvary. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

Verse of the Day
for Saturday, April 1, 2023

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
-- 1 Corinthians 1:25

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
God's ultimate "foolishness" is his willingness to use the cross to bring others to him. At first glance, the cross is a hideous and horrible tool. In our human wisdom, we could never visualize using a man crucified as criminal scum to capture the hearts of the world. But God does. The cross transcends cultural boundaries, overcomes language barriers, and reaches across racial differences. The cross is God's demonstration of foolishness and weakness (1 Corinthians 1:18-25), yet through it, Jesus conquered death and brought our hearts to him.

My Prayer...
On this day, Father, when many people play games and tricks and play the fool, I am powerfully reminded of your "foolishness" and "weakness" at Calvary with Jesus. Words cannot express how powerfully they have touched me with your love and filled me with the assurance of your grace. Thank you! I am utterly amazed that you would love me so. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Verse of the Day
for Thursday, March 30, 2023

I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. -- John 12:46

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
One of the great stories in the Gospel of John is Nicodemus. Nicodemus was a great teacher who came to Jesus at night, and Jesus told him that those who love the t***h would come to the light. Later, Nicodemus spoke up for Jesus even though he was ridiculed for it. Then, at the worst possible time, politically and religiously, Nicodemus showed himself as Jesus' disciple. He took the broken and dead body of Jesus and helped Joseph of Arimathea place Jesus' body in a tomb. Nicodemus didn't stay in the darkness, he came to Jesus from the darkness to the light. Neither should we. Jesus is the light of the world; if our light cannot be found in him, how deep is our darkness?

My Prayer...
Father, I want to walk in the light with you. The darkness of Calvary, the cross, and crucifixion, did not extinguish your light in Jesus. It made his light burn even more brightly for me. At the cross, I see your love for me. At the cross, I realize that Jesus took my sins away. At the cross, I see Jesus' love for both you and me, and that love is perfected. Thank you, Father, for your gracious salvation. Thank you, Jesus, for your incredible sacrifice. And thank you, Jesus, for your light in the midst of our darkness. In your name, O, Jesus, our perfect Lamb, I pray. Amen.

Stupidocrisy: Using God to justify child m********n
March 29, 2023

There are a lot of bad things going on in this world. It is difficult to even fathom mankind’s cruelty to each other. The trend toward everything t*********r in the United States is among the cruelest. To think that politicians would advocate for and even legalize the sexual m********n of minor children is beyond good reason and decency. The L***Q+ community that has infiltrated America’s schools and is allowed unfettered influence in causing minor children to first think about their sexuality and then question it to the point of wanting to change their sex is a horrible sin. Even more so are the wrong-minded politicians that legalize such horrors. And it is even worse when they invoke God to justify these terrors.

The Kentucky State Senate is comprised of 30 Republicans and 7 Democrats. The Kentucky State House is comprised of 80 Republicans and 20 Democrats. Verse of the Day
for Wednesday, March 29, 2023

Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him. -- John 13:31

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
In the powerful old hymn "Beneath the Cross of Jesus," we sing "my glory all the cross." That was genuinely true of Jesus. While other human leaders try to find glory in all sorts of ways, Jesus' path to glory was the cross. He wasn't after acclaim; he wanted to obey and glorify the Father! So when Judas left the Last Supper, the final stages of the process were set in motion. These processes would bring Jesus to the horrors of Calvary, the cross, and crucifixion. But rather than seeing the cross as his degradation, Jesus saw it as his way of glorifying God, bringing honor to God, and bringing us salvation.

My Prayer...
O, dear Father, please forgive me for seeking the approval and recognition of others. Please forgive me for being so self-centered. Please forgive me for thinking of my glory and not yours. And yes, please forgive me when I have trampled on the hearts of others because I was so busy gaining attention for myself and neglected those around me. Jesus' example in the last week of his life shocks me back to reality, Father, and helps me realize that true greatness is found in serving you, completely, no matter the cost, like Jesus. In Jesus' name, I pray and long to bring you glory. Amen.

Verse of the Day
for Tuesday, March 28, 2023

When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. -- John 13:21

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
I can still remember my friend saying it in church one Sunday: "We think so badly of old Judas for betraying the Lord for 30 pieces of silver, but how many times do we betray him for nothing?" Ouch! What makes this so difficult for us to bear is Jesus' anguish knowing one of his own would betray him. Let's make every effort and call upon God's strength so that such betrayal can never be true of us! And if it ever is, let's make sure we run toward his grace with an honest desire to escape sin, come back to him, and live loyally for him!

My Prayer...
Jesus, I am sorry for the times I have broken your heart with my r*******n and neglect. Father God, I apologize for my lack of passion that sometimes shows itself or my f**gging zeal for your Son's sacrifice that saved me from sin and death. I want to live more vibrantly for you, Jesus, so others may see and come to know you because of my life. It is in your precious name, Jesus, and I pray to honor the Father and his holy name. Amen.

Verse of the Day
for Sunday, March 26, 2023

looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
-- Titus 2:13-14

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
Some of the most basic and elevated statements about Jesus are made in 1 & 2 Timothy and Titus. These letters are dev**ed to helping ministers mature churches in difficult places. They are incredibly practical letters but also are rooted in the work of Jesus, his divinity, and his faithfulness. We are waiting for the Faithful One! We trust that he will come for us because of what he sacrificed to redeem us. While we wait, we honor his mission by being a people eager to do what is good, showing in our lives that Jesus is our Lord.

My Prayer...
O God, I find myself waiting for Jesus. Because he is coming for me, I know my life's direction has meaning and purpose, even on those days that are long, hard, discouraging, and seemingly fruitless. Fire my heart to wait longingly for Jesus' glorious appearing, and stir my desires to want what is only good and holy. I want to see you! But, dear Lord, I also long to be like you! In the glorious name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Verse of the Day
for Friday, March 24, 2023

Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: Let not those that seek thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel.
-- Psalm 69:6

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
What a beautiful prayer for any Christian! In a world that is so self-absorbed, isn't it refreshing to be reminded of the powerful impact for good and bad that we can have? Let's not only be reminded of the devastating impact of our hypocrisy and r*******n but let's also pray that our failures will not be destructive to the Kingdom's increase nor to our brothers and sisters in Christ as they seek to serve and honor the Lord!

My Prayer...
O gracious and mighty God, I do not want to sin. I know it is r*******n against you, and it breaks your heart. I do not want to sin because I know it diminishes me and makes me even more vulnerable to Satan's attacks in the future. I don't want to sin and disgrace your cause O God. And Father, I don't want to sin and be the cause of those seeking you to stumble. Please forgive my sins. Please, dear Father, strengthen and help me not stumble in my time of temptation. I pray in the name of the one who conquered temptation and sin, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Verse of the Day
for Thursday, March 23, 2023

And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
-- Colossians 1:21

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
So many people reject God because of the things they do not want to give up to honor and obey him. They may couch it in an intellectual argument, but the real issue is that they do not want to surrender their will to God. That would mean giving up things they love that conflict with the character and will of God. Many evangelists know that intellectual arguments seldom win this kind of person to the t***h. Instead, they must come to know Jesus and his sacrificial love for them before they admit that God's demand for holiness in them is because he is their ally, not their enemy. The evil one wants their destruction. Our Father in heaven wants their salvation.

My Prayer...
Holy and almighty God, I praise you for your love and holiness. Thank you for demonstrating both by sending Jesus to save me. I regret the times I saw your desire for my holy behavior to be too demanding or harsh. I thank you for loving me enough to save me in Jesus and call me to a holy life under your protection and care. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

Verse of the Day
for Wednesday, March 22, 2023

God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea -- Psalm 46: 1-2

Thoughts on Today's Verse...
Our challenge is trusting that amid our lives, those emotional earthquakes and tidal waves, God does not abandon us or leave us to face our trials alone. God is not only our protector, but he is also our constant helper. He is there even when our world seems to be crashing around us. He will deliver us from death or provide life to us through death and deliver us into the presence of Jesus. He will be our fortress from evil or strengthen us to overcome evil. "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." So, let's refuse to melt in fear but trust in him!

My Prayer...
Today, Holy God, I pray for those today who are in the middle of life's earthquakes and tidal waves. You know those for whom I am concerned. You know I care about their struggles which are too big for me to mitigate and too painful for me to bring comfort fully. I ask you now to bless and be with them and deliver them quickly. You are our only true hope, and Jesus is our only sure redeemer. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
