More than 2,000 r****rs entered the building, many of whom occupied, vandalized, l**ted and assaulted C*****l P****e officers and reporters. They attempted to locate lawmakers to capture and harm. A gallows was erected west of the Capitol, and some r****rs chanted "Hang Mike Pence" after he rejected false claims by Trump and others that the vice president could overturn the e******n results. By December 2022, 465 individuals charged had pleaded guilty.

A review of the federal charges against the alleged r****rs shows that they did come armed, and with a variety of weapons: stun guns, pepper spray, baseball bats and f**gpoles wielded as clubs. An additional suspect also allegedly planted pipe bombs by the headquarters of the Democratic and Republican parties the night before the r**t and remains at large. A J****** 6 r****r who carried two loaded handguns onto US Capitol grounds during the i**********n was sentenced to 60 months in jail after pleading guilty to assaulting an officer that day and unlawfully carrying a firearm.
