Bob Lutz served as a top executive at all of Detroit’s Big 3 automakers – Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler – during his more than 60 years in the auto industry.
He recently explained to Fox News why President Joe Biden’s big electric vehicle (EV) push has been a flop with consumers.
Biden poured more than $100 billion in taxpayer funds into subsidies for automakers and tax credits for buyers to boost EVs, but consumer demand is collapsing.
According to data from Experian, a little over one percent of all vehicles registered in the country at the end of last year were electric.
“The idea of EVs, gradually, adoption over time, with ever longer battery range, ever quicker recharge time, so that over the next couple of decades, EVs take a bigger and bigger slice of the pie, that’s fine,” Lutz explained. “But trying to get it done overnight was a colossal mistake, and it just plain is not going to work.”
He said that with the current technology for electric vehicles, the minuses outweigh the pluses.
“We’ve had 125 years to perfect the internal combustion engine, and we’ve had roughly 15 years so far on doing modern electric vehicles with modern batteries,” Lutz said. “Electric vehicles are fun, they drive well, they’re silent, they’re fast.”
The Texas Public Policy Foundation released a study that revealed that the real cost of electric vehicles is hidden because of the enormous taxpayer-funded subsidies Biden slapped on them.
Without the Biden regime’s taxpayer-funded price manipulation, the cost per EV could be more than $10,000 higher.
And EVs currently lack a nationwide network of public charging stations that rivals the amount of gas stations on the road.
Biden’s 2021 bipartisan infrastructure bill doled out $7.5 billion in taxpayer funds to build new public charging stations with a goal of creating a national network of 500,000 by 2030.
More than two years after the bill was passed, only eight charging stations have been built.
The tide is turning against electric vehicles in the auto industry

“Turns out he was right,” Lutz said. “So all we’re seeing is that everybody is pulling back on their EV programs. And both Jim Farley of Ford and I believe Mary Barra of General Motors have said: we have to admit, we were all consumed in this wave of EV euphoria, and we all thought it was going to happen much faster than it actually did.”

FBI says fraud targeting seniors cost victims more than $3 billion
According to a new report from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), elder fraud is on the rise.
The FBI’s 2023 Elder Fraud Report found that s**ms targeting Americans over the age of 60 cost victims $3.4 billion, a rise from $3.1 billion in 2022.
The number of complaints filed with the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) – the federal cyber crime agency – jumped by 11% in 2023.
Victims lost on average about $34,000, with about 5%, 5,920 people, reporting losses over $100,000.
These alarming statistics might not even tell the entire story.
FBI Criminal Investigative Division Assistant Director Michael Nordwall said, “These numbers do not fully capture the frauds and s**ms targeting this vulnerable cross-section of our population, as only about half of the more than 880,000 complaints received by IC3 in 2023 included age data.”
The most common s**m targeting Americans over 60 was tech support fraud, while investment s**ms were the costliest in terms of money lost.
“Tech support s**ms, according to the FBI, usually involve s**mmers claiming to be support from a legitimate company and informing the victim of fraudulent activity or potential refund for a subscription service. The s**mmer tells the victim they have a refund for the victim, however, money can only be sent by downloading a software that allows the s**mmer to view the victim’s bank account,” ABC News reported.
FBI Financial Crimes Section Chief James Barnicle warned that s**ms often come from call centers in India, Laos, Cambodia, and African countries.
He said that in addition to having victims report crimes, the Bureau wants to come after the s**mmers.
“We’re looking to arrest people,” Barnicle said. “We’re going to work with law enforcement agencies around the world, in wh**ever jurisdiction has the best fit and can get hands-on in some countries. Maybe we can’t get hands on an offender, but maybe our partners can, whether it’s Australia or Japan or the United Kingdom — so we’re looking to arrest people.”
S**mmers getting more aggressive against their victims
FBI Financial Crimes Assistant Section Chief Christopher Soyez described to ABC News a recent experience that he had with a s**mmer.
“The tone of the text messages took a real aggressive turn — threats of violence to me and my family,” Soyez said. “There were some pretty graphic photos of what things that would happen to me. And he got pretty aggressive.”
He said that the FBI is seeing a trend of s**mmers getting more aggressive and confrontational with their victims.
“They were taking steps to really intimidate me… and somebody — especially an older American, my mother, and my grandmother would have certainly been very terrified of this,” Soyez said.
The sooner that a crime is reported to the FBI, the greater the chance of recovering the stolen money.

At the center of the case is Trump’s former Lawyer Michael Cohen.
He was involved in negotiating the terms of a nondisclosure agreement with porn star Stormy Daniels and paying her the agreed-upon amount.
And he’s Bragg’s star witness in the case.
Cohen has tried to cash in on his starring role in the latest Trump witch hunt by ranting about it on C*******t China-controlled social media app TikTok.
“As he awaits his turn to take the witness stand, Cohen has discussed Trump, the ongoing trial, and the testimony already underway during nightly livestreams on TikTok which appear to be earning him financial benefit through viewers’ donations,” ABC News reported.
Cohen attacked the testimony of former National Enquirer Publisher David Pecker, attacked Trump, and commented on the jury in videos posted to TikTok.
Democrat Judge Juan Merchan slapped an unconstitutional gag order on Trump to keep him from speaking publicly about the case.
But Cohen is free to rant and rave about it on TikTok for his financial benefit.
“Trump 2024? More like Trump 20-24 years,” Cohen said in a video.
Now that the spotlight has been shined on him for moonlighting as a social media influencer, Cohen has apparently sensed – or been forced to accept – that it could damage what little credibility he has left and announced that he wasn’t going to talk about the case anymore.
“I am not the defendant in this criminal matter and am not the subject of Judge Merchan’s gag order. Donald is,” Cohen said. “Nevertheless, I elected, out of respect to the court and the prosecutors, to cease commenting on Trump and this matter, which I have done.”
But the damage has already been done.

Former Federal Prosecutor Andrew McCarthy told Fox News that Bragg made a mistake relying on Cohen as one of his star witnesses.
“It is a major problem for prosecutors. It is not a problem for Cohen’s credibility because he has none — he is a convicted perjurer and fraudster whose current ‘defense’ of his fraud convictions is that he wasn’t telling the t***h when he pled guilty,” McCarthy explained. “It’s a problem for prosecutors because they chose to build a case on a witness with a track record of bad conduct and deep bias and, not surprisingly, he can’t help himself but continue to act in character.”
Stormy Daniels’ former Lawyer, Michael Avenatti, one of the more Trump-deranged humans on Earth today, admitted that Cohen could “torpedo” the case.
“Michael Cohen through his narcissism and his ego may have just torpedoed the case against Trump,” Avenatti said. “Never underestimate this guy’s ability to screw something up due to his ignorance and arrogance. He’s dumber than a box of rocks. The state can’t win the case without him and because of his conduct in reviewing trial testimony in violation of the court’s order, which just admitted to when speaking with ABC, the court must strike him as a witness, declare a mistrial, or both.”
Former Georgia Prosecutor Chris Timmons also revealed that he would be fuming if he had to rely on Cohen as a witness in one of the cases he prosecuted.
“As a prosecutor, the last thing you want your witness to do is to be talking about the case in a forum other than the courtroom,” Timmons told ABC News.
