Why did so many working class v**ers choose a selfish, thin-skinned, petulant, lying, narcissistic, boastful, megalomaniac for president?

It’s important to know, because we need to stop more Trumps in the future.

The answer lies in the interplay between deep-seated r****m and stagnant and declining wages. Both must be addressed.

Some white working class men and women were — and still are — receptive to Trump’s bigotry. But what made them receptive? R****m and xenophobia aren’t exactly new to American life. Fears of b****s and immigrants have been with us since the founding of the Republic.

What changed was the economy. Since the 1980s, the wages and economic prospects of the typical American worker have stagnated. Nearly 80 percent now live paycheck to paycheck, and those paychecks have grown less secure.

Meanwhile, all the economy’s gains have gone to the richest ten percent, mostly the top 1 percent. Wealthy individuals and big corporations have, in turn, invested some of those gains into politics.

As a result, big money now calls the shots in Washington – getting subsidies, tax breaks, tax loopholes (even Trump promised to close the “carried interest” loophole yet it remains), and bailouts.

The near meltdown of Wall Street in 2008 caused a recession that cost millions their jobs, homes, and savings. But the Street got bailed out and not a single Wall Street executive went to jail.

In the two years leading up to the 2016 e******n, I revisited many of the places I had visited when I was labor secretary in the 1990s.

People told me the system was “r****d” against them. A surprising number said they planned to v**e either for Bernie Sanders or Donald Trump — the two anti-establishment candidates who promised to “shake up” Washington.

But Trump’s r****m and xenophobia focused the cumulative economic rage on scapegoats that had nothing to do with its causes. It was hardly the first time in history a demagogue has used this playbook.

If America doesn’t respond to the calamity that’s befallen the working class, we will have Trumps as far as the eye can see.

A few Democrats are getting the message – pushing ambitious ideas like government-guaranteed full employment, single-payer health care, industry-wide collective bargaining, and a universal basic income.

We also need ways to finance these things, such as a carbon tax, a tax on Wall Street trades, and a progressive tax on wealth.

o accomplish all this we have to get big money out of politics.

Even if “Citizens United” isn’t overruled, big money’s influence can be limited with generous public financing of e******ns, full disclosure of the source of all campaign contributions, and a clampdown on the revolving door between business and government.

Trump isn’t the cause of what’s happened to America. He’s the consequence – the product of years of stagnant wages and big money’s corruption of our democracy combined with a long legacy of r****m and bigotry.

If we really want to stop Trump and prevent future Trumps, we will need to address these causes of Trump’s rise.

You are wrong about Cruz. US law states that a child born to a US citizen parent anywhere in the world is a US citizen by birth, as long as the citizen parent resided in the US for five years after her 14th birthday. (Operative US law when Cruz was born.)
Obama could have been born in Kenya and he would still be a US citizen by birth, provided his mother met the requirements. That is the problem. His mother was barely old enough to meet those requirements, and some say his birth certificate was falsified to correct this. They may be right, but there have been about 30 court challenges that have failed.

I*****l A***ns Fatally Separate Hispanic, Black and White Children From American Parents

In 2008, Colorado separated a Jewish boy from his parents.

Marten Kudlis was separated from his parents while waiting for his mother to bring him his ice cream. The 3-year-old boy who had just been playing in the park never got his ice cream.

Instead Francis Hernandez, an i*****l a***n driving 81 miles an hour, slammed into a pickup truck, k*****g the two women inside, and smashing it through the glass wall of the Baskin Robbins.

Blood and broken glass covered the floor. Little Marten, who had just learned to ride a bike, died of a slashed jugular vein and was buried with a teddy bear.

Francis Hernandez had been arrested 16 times in 5 years without ever being turned over to immigration authorities. That failure to enforce i*********n l*w separated a little boy from his family forever.

Advocates for illegal migration claim to be outraged by family separation. They want i*****l a***n invaders like Francis to go on separating American children from their families. When previous administrations failed to enforce border security, they separated American children like Marten and many others from their parents forever. And the blood of those children is on the hands of the posturing politicians, activists and pundits who want to unite i*****l a***ns and separate Americans.

In February 2018, the United States government separated Grace Aguilar from her parents.

Grace was a bright and cheerful 6-year-old girl. While she was sitting by her favorite tree in the front yard of her family home, Maximino Delgado Lagunas, a Mexican i*****l a***n who had already been deported twice, ran her down.

The i*****l a***n's blood alcohol limit was three times the legal limit. He had been arrested before for a DUI but was put back on the street by local cops instead of being turned over to immigration authorities.

Sanctuary city policies separated Grace, whose parents had tried to have children for 8 years, from her parents. The i*****l a***n who k**led her had been deported twice, once under Bush and once under Obama. The combination of lax border security by these two administrations and local sanctuary policies permanently separated the little girl and her parents. Unlike the i*****l m*****ts whose plight is playing out on every cable news channel, the Aguilar family will never get their daughter back.

16-year-old Kayla Cuevas and 15-year-old Nisa Mickens were separated from their parents when they were battered with baseball bats and butchered with a machete in a suburban cul-de-sac by i*****l a***n MS-13 members.

The brutal i*****l a***n assault left the bodies of the African-American teenage girls, who had been out celebrating Nisa's birthday, barely recognizable.

“There are days where you feel like you want your world to end, just like your child’s,” Kayla's mother said. “Then you realize you have a new purpose: to fight, so that your child’s death is not in vain.”

10-year-old Alena Clay Lacy was separated from her family while walking down a bike lane with her 16-year-old sister and two other girls. Juan Carlos Ortega-Santos, an i*****l a***n, had no driver's license, no insurance and his blood alcohol level was far over the limit. 16-year-old Tyeisha Lacy, Alena's sister, pushed an 8-year-old girl out of Juan's way. But Juan slammed into the two Lacy girls k*****g them both.

"He will never know the extent of the damage he did," Lakeenya Lacy, Tyeisha's mother, said in court. "You did not just take their lives. You took other people's lives with them."

4-year-old Ellie Bryant and 22-month-old Grayson Hacking were separated forever from their mother when Margarito Quintero Rosales slammed head on into their car. Ellie, Grayson and Courtney Hacking's husband, Peter, were all k**led.

Rosales had been previously deported and had no license. He was sentenced to two years in prison.

15-year-old Genesis Cornejo-Alvarado was separated from her parents when two i*****l a***n MS-13 gang members k**led her in a satanic ritual after previously raping her and a 14-year-old girl.

11-year-old Abigail Robinson and 6-year-old Anna Dieter-Eckerdt were separated from their parents while playing in a pile of leaves. Cinthya Garcia-Cisneros, who ran them over, was an i*****l a***n and one of Obama's DREAMERs. Despite k*****g the two girls, she was released from jail and allowed to apply for a Social Security number and a work permit. And that is exactly what i*****l a***n advocates want.

When i*****l a***ns separate a child from his or her parents, no power on earth can undo that separation.

The sheriff's department and volunteers searched hundreds of acres for 14-month-old Owen Hidalgo-Calderon. The body of his mother, 18-year-old Selena Hidalgo-Calderon, had already been found.

Evarardo Donoteo-Reyes, a Mexican i*****l a***n who had already been deported twice, and convicted once of illegal entry, was charged with moving her body.

10-year-old Kayla Gomez-Orozco went missing after church. Her body was later found in a well. The accused murderer was Gustavo Zavala-Garcia, her previously deported i*****l a***n uncle, who allegedly sexually assaulted her, beat her with a blunt object, choked her and then drowned her in the well.

But sometimes i*****l a***ns don’t even bother separating parents and children. Marco Tulio Hernandez Ramirez was driving his employer’s van when he slammed into the Cannon family's Toyota Camry.

His blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit, he didn’t have a license and was driving on the wrong side of the roadway. But the i*****l a***n survived to become a 40-year burden on taxpayers. 5-year-old Rose Marie Cannon didn't. Neither did Katherine Cannon and Russell Cannon.

Rose Marie had been given a dollar to spend as the family headed out to do their Christmas shopping.

“And she died with that dollar in her hand," Louise Cannon, Russell's mother, said. "That's the most heartbreaking thing."

"He gave them the death sentence," she said of Ramirez.

But it wasn’t only Ramirez who did that. Ramirez had been deported before, but there he was back again. The failure to enforce i*********n l*ws separated Rose Marie forever from her family.

America is full of angel dad and moms whose children were separated from them by i*****l a***ns.

Ray Tranchant was separated forever from his 16-year-old daughter Tessa, when Alfredo Ramos, a drunk i*****l a***n, slammed into the back of their car.

"My idea of heaven", Tessa had written in her journal, "is a nonstop vacation on a tropical island … all the people I love would be there with me."

Ray Tranchant has been fighting to prevent other American families from being separated from their child.

And he’s not alone.

The victims are all around us. These are only a handful of their stories. They are members of every race and religion. Some were born in this country and others came here as legal immigrants.

We have a choice to make.

Either we can detain i*****l m*****ts crossing the border or we can let them all in. We can take the Merkel way out and hope that the family that pays the price for illegal migration isn’t our own.

There are no apologies or excuses necessary for detaining i*****l a***ns who illegally cross the border. Even if we set aside minor matters like national sovereignty and the rule of law, the stories of these murdered children provide ample justification for arresting every single i*****l m*****t.

Either we separate i*****l m*****ts from this country. Or they will go on brutally tearing families apart. And if we allow them to use children as human shields, then American children will pay the price.

President Trump has called the media the “enemy of the American people.” It’s not just the enemy. Its manicured hands are covered in the blood of American men, women and children. The media advocates for drug dealers, for Islamic terrorists and for i*****l a***ns. The more Americans they k**l, the more the media cheers them on. The media’s lies aren’t just tearing apart the country, they’re k*****g children.

The Most Important Issue on Immigration, and Nobody is Talking About It

Yes, the United States is a nation of immigrants, but are we to understand by that that the United States is just the lowest common denominator of all those people, a harmonious blending of all the nations and cultures of the world.

Or, is there a particular culture that defines us as a nation and that we are supposed to teach this culture to our immigrants, and they are expected to assimilate to it to become an American?

The American experiment is based on a level of human rights and freedom unparalleled anywhere else in the world. Our Founders fought a war in order to be able to establish this country with the Constitution that is currently in place.

The basic idea for American freedom and rights is explained in our Declaration of Independence [please read this slowly]: “We hold these t***hs to be self-evident that all men are created equal (i.e. we don’t believe in kings, a ruling class), that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty,, and the pursuit of happiness – that to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed — that whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.”

It is a safe assumption that no immigrant understands or believes these things when they come to our country. Why would they? The countries they come from don’t believe in them, and how would they know what we believe. We don’t even talk about this anymore.

Many of our immigrants we already know will not agree with these beliefs. Islam, for example, had been in existence for 1,000 years prior to the founding of our country, and there is no Muslim country then or now in the world with a Constitution anything like ours. A Muslim would deny the whole premise of our Constitution.

We as a nation no longer talk about God-given rights, because we are told that any mention of God constitutes an unconstitutional endorsement of religion. So when millions of immigrants v**e in our e******ns and have no idea of or belief in what it is that makes the United States what it is, we will eventually lose the freedoms we fought a war to gain.

This won’t happen suddenly, but gradually as more and more people v**e according to their understanding of rights and not according to our Founders. I dare say we don’t even teach these to our own children, given the hostility to anything having to do with God in our public schools.

We are losing our nation. Without a war, without a revolution, without anyone even noticing it.

Is this really what we want to do?

I guess it's time to congratulate you conservatives. You've accomplished some major wins. I may disagree with how you accomplished it, but you are winning. The country is definitely tilting to the right. The ship of state has taken a list to starboard, and I can't deny that.

You've won the battle.

There are a whole lot of new federal judges that will force conservative decisions for the next few decades.

You've destroyed the federal civil service requirements and allow cronyism to sneak back into the government workplace.

You've eliminated a raft of environmental regulations that mainly affect poor and minority communities.

The federal lands are now open to the 'thumper trucks' which search for oil.

The poultry and beef processing industry is having trouble finding enough people to work in the gruesome slaughterhouses that provide our steaks and rotisserie chicken.

Our water supplies are no longer being tested for harmful chemicals.

Employees of major corporations no longer have the ability to band together in class action lawsuits. Instead, they have to resort to private arbitration on a one-to-one basis which most cannot afford to do because of high legal fees.

Respect for the Department of Justice and the FBI has been eroded, which makes it more difficult for them to do their jobs and get cooperation from the population.

You've defanged the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which was showing signs of actually holding companies accountable when they committed fraud against their customers.

China and Russia are doing major deals with the rest of the world that we've retreated from. China is estimated to be ahead of in Artificial Intelligence within a decade, and their companies are quietly acquiring American firms. And to do business in China, our companies have to partner with a Chinese firm, which mandates intellectual property t***sfers and eliminates our technological edge.

Yep, you're winning. You're accomplishing the decline of the United States as a world power. We've alienated our European allies and degraded the relations with our Asian partners.

You're achieving your goal of taking the country back to the late nineteenth century, which was isolationist, r****t, h********c, mysogenistic, religiously bigoted and the realm of the big industrialists (the Robber Barons.) A truly worthy goal, if you don't know what life back then was like.

I wish you well. I'm old enough that I probably won't see the end result of all this. I'm glad of that, but I fear for the younger generations and the quality of life that they will inherit.

Congratulations, you've won the present battle. But long term, you've lost the war, and our country is much the worse for that. If you prevail, that great experiment called democracy will fail.

Now, I ask you: where in this passage of GOD’S WORD are the feelings of the wife taken into account? No one even asks her whether or not she’s guilty or innocent. No one asks the husband why he feels she’s been unfaithful. His jealousy, alone, can be proof enough to bring his wife up on charges of infidelity.

Even if she is found guilty and the poison has caused her belly to swell and the baby to be aborted, where is the logic you “Christians” claim that a******n is “murder” and disallowed by God, Himself? In fact, God claims that this is the right and proper thing to do, toward punishing the wife for being unfaithful.

Where is God’s “love” here, for the innocent and unborn baby, you all so sanctimoniously claim to defend? Where is the example of God you’re claiming to follow? I’m not seeing the first example of it here.

Then, to follow suit, once the child is born, where is your “Christian love and charity” when it comes to helping the child grow and be nurtured? You’re too busy, by then, to be bothered. Plus, you’re not willing to give any monies toward helping the child, either. Why not? Aren’t we tasked, by Jesus, with helping the poor and needy? Aren’t we told by Him to sell all we have and give it to the poor?

You bunch of self-centered hypocrites! You speak about God’s Word, yet have no clue as to what it is or how to live it, yourselves. May God have mercy on your souls! You’ll need every bit He gives you, plus some more.

For those of you who say we are a “Christian nation” and should enforce “God’s laws as our own,” given this “test of an unfaithful woman” are you still certain you’d want to live under a Christian theocracy? Are you and your family members so pure of heart and deed that you don’t fear your own “testing?” You detest Islam and Sharia Law, yet you haven’t read your own Bibles to know the punishments that await those who sin against God, their parents, their rulers, and the priests.

You better pull the logs from your own eyes before you tell others about the splinters in theirs.
BTW, I’m a minister of the Gospel. I just happen to know that God’s grace, forgiveness, love and charity are more important to my salvation than condemning others whose plights you know nothing of, yet judge against.

Mistaken on two counts:

One, we don't need to build a wall. If Americans citizens would not hire i*****l a***ns there would be no draw for 'wetbacks' or gravel bellies.
Two, liberals would not be there with out stretched arms if the i******s don't come because we are not hiring them.

The reason liberals have sympathy for the i*****l a***ns is because we know that they are being used and abused by supposedly upstanding American citizens. Go after the criminals who hire them if you want to put a dent in the migration. I see no outrage by conservatives against these American lawbreakers.

The difference is that Republicans state that they believe in life in the womb but do nothing to help the fetus after birth. Better not to be born than to live a life of poverty and bias under conditions where the family cannot support this extra expense. Only the mother should be able to make judgment on this. It is the post birth conditions that the mother takes into consideration and Righties do not. It is they who are pulling back on moneys spent on education and social network agencies. Their philosophy is "Save the fetus but to hell with the person."
