I remember the stories from my mom and dad's parents about the time they spent waiting for visas until they received verification of sponsorship and employment. Working on farms for subsistance and going to school at night to learn the language, customs and citizenship requirements to become citizens in two years.
Separating families was a directive by Obama and congress has yet to chang it. As far as my citizenship, my grand parents filed for a visa, found families to sponsor them and provide employment once the made it to Ellis island to go through vetting physical exams and inoculation before being allowed to immigrate.
