What's the point I missed? How does a person look for work ? I think they either look for an employer or start a business on their own. If you are seeking an employer you put in applications and ask around. If someone makes a suggestion ( as you did) a logical person would ask for additional information. I have used this technique to get a job and have helped others get a job when they solicited me for information. If I have missed the point here somehow , please explain it to me in all of your cynical, bitter knowledge.

Gentlemen, let us ask a different question: How can one start up a business with no start-up capital? Obviously, if most of the people in Ferguson had jobs and were working, they would not be out robbing cigar stores or demonstrating in the streets.

Obama bailed out the big banks, bailed out the big insurance companies and General Motors and Wall Street but not Main Street. Right? Yes. He ordered the Federal Reserve Banks to print nearly $10 trillion dollars, devaluing our currency to 40 Cents. Right? Yes. Did we get any of the funny money? No.

OK. How did the citizens of Massachusetts address the same unemployment crisis as Ferguson's and shortage of start-up capital? They printed their own currency, [its legal to do so - the IRS counts it as "assets")] and bartered for each other's goods and services. Watch how this works and learn from this. Really! The government is not going to save Ferguson. American entrepreneurial spirit and innovation will:

Take a look at the history of the Progressive Democrat Party and our current president. Watch this expose on Obama's Science advisor, John P. Holden and the UN's Green Environmental h**xsters. This lecture is a detailed report on Holden's publications; "Ecoscience: Population, Resources, Environment." This video lecture presentation from Prison Planet is made by Dr. Webster Tarpley, most informative. Pay attention and watch this expose, take good notes. Do your homework. All along I've been thinking that competition would keep the cost of the private schools down if we went to a voucher system. You said it would make costs skyrocket. The more I thought about that, given that it's government funding, the more I realized that you are correct and I was wrong.

Please let me think about the subject some more and, when I think I have a better understanding I'll get back to you.

Again, thanks for the polite debate and for pointing out the fallacy in my thinking. I sincerely appreciate it.

Surely, it is "reasonable" to ask questions? And, you seem to be a gentleman who can carry on a debate beyond a "limited vocabulary" discourse, which is a pleasure, no matter how much I might contest some of your ideas.

You too, have educated me, for I see a trend of public entrenchment with the current system than is hard to break away from, when you cite: "Since education (K-12) benefits all of society I think the government has an obligation to provide it, but they have proven they are incapable of actually administering it."

Well, is that because the government educators are incompetent, or the curriculum itself is incompetent? I think its both. The time has come to throw out the baby with the bath water. Perhaps you are more hesitant and less ruthless? We do not have real-life experienced professionals from the industrial and scientific community teaching high schools, but people who have never spent one hour of work in the free market and real world as imposter-instructors.

Retired veterans with a good military education in technology and field experience have more sk**ls and knowledge than these certified teachers with a masters degree from Harvard. Retired construction engineers who have built our bridges and cities can better teach math and physics than our high school teachers today.

But we cannot attract the best and the brightest because there is no financial incentive, like merit pay. This is why I'd like to see a merger of Industrial apprenticeships with Charter Schools, and let the free market help pay for the education of our children. The less government funding, the better results in creating a sk**led and knowledgeable work force. Charter schools also can accommodate the arts and literature. No problem.

We could debate this for a year, and not have any impact on the present situation. I do write my representatives in government but rarely see any incentive to fix things.

Just how strong is human nature's unwillingness to change impeding fixing this broken educational system and getting this very dangerous government completely out of our children's lives? They have an agenda, and it is not dispensing knowledge.

You advocate government issued vouchers for private schools to replace public schools? Interesting. Others have suggested this, too.

I still object to your mandating a "minimum curriculum" to be covered by the vouchers. This will introduce government strings attached on what is taught, as well as an infusion of government money into the private sector forcing prices to skyrocket.

This Third Way merger of socialism with capitalism does not work on Wall Street with Fannie Mae, neither will it work in education.

For example, take a look at Hillsdale College, which teaches constitutional law and US history. They exist on private donations through the publication and distribution of IMPRIMIS to make certain the government cannot mandate restrictions on curriculum.

Industrial apprenticeships can provide far better instruction in science, technology and math than public schools which cannot attract qualified teachers due to the Teachers Union objection to merit pay.

If we are trying to achieve an educated workforce and responsible citizenry, redistributing the wealth through government funding of schools will not achieve that goal, but exacerbate the problem. We have to get rid of the layers and layers of government bureaucrats, an enormous expense of unnecessary regulators. Local hands on management improves quality and hands on management of individual student needs.

Nope. If the taxpayers are paying for the education, they get a say in what's taught. I don't know about you, but when I was in school, if I'd had the option to choose my studies, I never would have taken a difficult course.

Those who do graduate from the 12th grade will be prepared for both jobs or college, whichever they choose.

Let me add, that the public is being taxed to death over education and the money is being peed down a rathole. 70% of the California state budget (40 billion in debt, the last time we heard) is spent on schools, California being the 8th largest nation state economy in the world.

Nevertheless, the students score 49th out of 50 states in scholastic achievement, right down there on the bottom. There are a dozen layers of bureaucrats above the teachers and students collecting $100,000 paychecks. The system is broken.

And every time the teachers demand a raise, the government tries to raise property taxes, skirting Prop 13 with "bonds" and mysterious hidden taxes disguised as levies, fees, and fines. At what point do these liberal dingbats admit their system of socialist indoctrination is a failure?

Somehow your plan to give everybody an aptitude test after grade 8 and then decide their lifelong career smacks of the old soviet union.

What you label 'sink or swim' I call 'freedom of choice'. It seems you're advocating 'freedom from choice'.

How on earth is a child at age 6, being thrown into a school of 1000 students, considered normal and an opportunity of 'freedom of choice' when the agenda of the teachers is c*******t indoctrination from day one? What we have now "smacks of the old Soviet Union."

Wasn't it you that was asking for the testing? I am trying to find some middle ground with your interests.

Personally, I don't think the state or federal government, or Common Core has any right whatsoever to determine one's IQ, one's potential, one's education or career, especially now, where one's entire fate is laid out on a DNA grid forecasting human behavior.

My original post is to "abolish all public schools." Get the government out of education altogether. I like the old fashioned way where a young adult could choose his own vocation. on his own volition.

At the founding of this nation, local farmers - who were businessmen, and mining companies, logging companies, etc., organized private schools to educate the children in the off seasons of work, mostly during winter. Great. Let us return to that. Let us educate our children at home, we now have many cheap tools, like K-12.

Thomas Edison and Mary Baker Eddy were both taken out of public schools by their parents, where they were failing, and home-schooled quite successfully.

Thanksgiving Day Proclamation 1789

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to "recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:

for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war;

for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed;

for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been able to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge;

Yes, I have noticed. We need a constructive solution.
Where are the jobs? Let us be innovative and imagine life before the existence of the Federal Reserve Board. How has the world survived for hundreds of thousands of years?

1) The town of Ferguson's disgruntled citizens must call a town meeting.

2) The town of Ferguson's citizens need to make a list of businesses, goods and services they need to build.

3) Engage in barter. Invent three sets of "promissory notes" in exchange for food, shelter and clothing and thereby create jobs, literally out of thin air without real cash.
One Hour of Labor.
One Day of Labor.
One Week of Labor.

4) Get to work. It's going to be a long, cold winter. This is going to be how you rebuild your town.

"LOS ANGELES-Conservative black civil rights activist and national radio talk show host, Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, issued the following statement regarding the grand jury decision not to indict white Ferguson, Mo., police Officer Darren Wilson in the August 9th shooting death of Michael Brown:

" 'The decision not to indict Officer Darren Wilson proves that our justice system works. The outcome shows that justice prevailed despite a concerted effort by rabble rousers, corrupt civil rights 'leaders,' Attorney General Eric Holder, and even President Barack Obama, who attempted to tip the scales of justice and convict the officer without due process.

" 'Emboldened by irresponsible public statements made by race baiters like Al Sharpton, and Eric Holder, the professional community organizers have been planning to create havoc in Ferguson for months. Some are looking for an excuse to l**t and r**t. R****t black thugs in Ferguson even issued a $5,000 bounty on Officer Wilson's life.

" 'If b****s r**t, the blame lies with the so-called 'leaders' and elected officials who condemned the officer without knowing all the facts and who treated the thug Michael Brown like a hero by sending White House officials to his funeral.

" 'The problem with most b****s in Ferguson and across America is that they want to blame police and scapegoat w****s for their anger rather than taking responsibility for raising their children and improving their communities.

" 'Intimidation and lawlessness cannot be tolerated. Law enforcement must be allowed to do their job and protect law-abiding citizens and businesses. And we must all repudiate irresponsible, race hustlers who incite violence with their lies and encourage the foolishness of black thugs who act like spoiled children.'

That's a good question. These laws are not being implemented now only because the United States is still engaged as a member state in the UN.

Without our membership and financing, the socialist dominated UN could easily engage against us, causing trouble on our borders, allying with socialist Mexicans attempting to annex California, all awhile China marches on the island nations in the Pacific.

Gentlemen, you are missing the point. Obama's vetoes can be overridden by a 2/3rds majority in the Senate, and those v**es will be obtainable come January because enough moderate Democrats will join in.

Nevertheless, the i*****l i*********n problem will not be solved by building fences, enforcing employer compliance with existing hiring laws, or grants of amnesty.

Latin America, just like North America, needs land reform to help the poor. America mandated Taiwan engage in land reform in exchange for foreign aid back in 1949 in the midst of the Chinese civil war.

This was achieved by wangling a deal between the feudalistic landlords of Taiwan dividing up their properties amongst small farmers in exchange for American financing their possession of new industry in the cities.

Land Reform will end the mass migration north. Why hasn't this been demanded by our Secretary of State over the past Century?
