https://fee.org/articles/i-grew-up-in-a-c*******t-system-here-s-what-americans-don-t-understand-about-freedom/

Only in a free-market system can we truly achieve individual liberty and human flourishing.

Individual freedom can only exist in the context of free-market capitalism. Personal freedom thrives in capitalism, declines in government-regulated economies, and vanishes in c*******m. Aside from better economic and legislative policies, what America needs is a more intense appreciation for individual freedom and capitalism.

I was born and raised in c*******t Romania during the Cold War, a country in which the government owned all the resources and means of production. The state controlled almost every aspect of our lives: our education, our job placement, the time of day we could have hot water, and what we were allowed to say.

Like the rest of the Eastern European countries, Romania was often referred to as a c*******t country. In school, we were taught it was a socialist country. Its name prior to the 1989 Revolution to o*******w the Ceausescu regime was the Socialist Republic of Romania.

From an economic standpoint, a petty fraction of property was still privately owned. In a c*******t system, all property is owned by the state. So if it wasn't a true c*******t economy, its heavy central planning and the application of a totalitarian control over the Romanian citizenry made this nation rightfully gain its title of a c*******t country.

Socialism Creates Shortages

Despite the fact that Romania was a country rich in resources, there were shortages everywhere. Food, electricity, water, and just about every one of life's necessities were in short supply. The apartment building in which we lived provided hot water for showers two hours in the morning and two hours at night. We had to be quick and on time so we didn't miss the opportunity.

Wrigley's chewing gum and Swiss chocolate were a rare delight for us. I remember how happy I was when I'd have a pack of foreign bubblegum or a bar of delicious milk chocolate. I'd usually save them for special occasions.

Fruity lip gloss, French perfume, and jeans were but a few of the popular items available only on the black market and with the right connections. God bless our black-market entrepreneurs! They made our lives better. They gave us the opportunity to buy things we very much desired, things we couldn't get from the government-owned retail stores which were either half-empty or full of products that were ugly and of poor quality.

The grocery stores were not any better. I get it, maybe we didn't need to be fashionable. But we needed to eat. So, the old Romanian adage "Conscience goes through the stomach" made a lot of sense.

During the late 1970s, life in Romania started to deteriorate even more. Meat was hardly a consumer staple for the average Romanian. Instead, our parents learned to become good at preparing the liver, the brain, the tongue, and other giblets that most people in the West would not even consider trying.

When milk, butter, eggs, and yogurt were temporarily available, my mom—like so many others of our neighbors—would wake up at 2:00 a.m. to go stand in line so she'd have the chance to get us these goodies. The store would open at 6:00 a.m., so if she wasn't early enough in line she'd miss the opportunity.

In 1982, the state sent their disciples to people's homes to do the census. Along with that, food rationing was implemented. For a family of four like us, our rationed quota was 1 kilogram of flour and 1 kilogram of sugar per month. That is, if they were available and if we were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time when they were being distributed.

The one television channel our government provided for us often focused on programs related to crime and poverty in the western world. After all, people were poor and suffering because of capitalism, so we were told, so we needed socialism and c*******m to solve the inequalities of humanity.

Capitalism Advances Private Property

Considering the shortages created by the government-controlled economy of my birth country, I came to understand and appreciate capitalism, the one system that had the most dramatic effect in elevating human civilization.

The layman definition of capitalism is the economic system in which people and businesses engage in manufacturing, trading, and exchanging products and services without government interference. A free-market capitalist system works in a more efficient manner when not tampered with by government or central bank intervention in the credit markets, monetary policy, and interest rate fixing.

Private property and private property rights are at the core of capitalism. When in school, we learned that private property makes people greedy and is considered detrimental to society. Private property was associated with capitalism, the system that our textbooks claimed failed.

Ginny_Dandy,

Thank you for your post and I am so happy you survived. It is unfortunate you can’t share this on a farther reaching media.
The writing is on the wall and people (libs, dems & progs) are to blind to see it. They are only looking at the free stuff they can get, not realizing they are being indoctrinated to socialism and being controlled by the government.

Stop painting in broad strokes and say Trump supporters are all w***e s*********ts. Statistically we could say b****s are all criminals by your logic since they have a higher crime rate and incarceration. I am tired I have people like you living in the past and whining and complaining. Do you want to tear down statues and erase history’s and even president. So let’s use that logic and s***ery never happened then right? So there’s nothing to b***h about!

I’m also tired of the word African-American because again that puts another country ahead of ours! I don’t say I am a German scotch Irish American, we are Americans first and foremost. When you want to put yourself ahead of others how do you expect everybody to get along? Take responsibility for your own actions and go into the neighborhoods and clean them up! B*M is just a d******c t*******t organization. If B*M really matters then name the last black person that got k**led in Chicago, Detroit, Portland or wherever! The problem is you can’t and it only matters when they are k**led by typically a white police officer which is a very low percentage given the number of arrests. More White people are k**led by cops than b****s and that’s a statistical fact.

I am all for giving somebody a hand up when they are down but the handouts have to stop. The people that take advantage of the programs to educate themselves so they can have a better job and way of life good for them. That’s the way it supposed to be. If America is so r****t how did Obama get elected? Let’s see professional basketball or football players live in another country and see if they can make the same living over there or have the opportunities that America afford them.

If people don’t wake up and realize biden and the progressive wacko birds will turn America into a third world country and our freedom‘s will be lost forever. You have to be a complete moron to see that it’s about a power grab and for what?? At what cost?
Oh please just keep playing your freaking race car... (show quote)

American Eagle,

Very well said, I agree with you 100%.
Being a person of “color” the only thing that could hold me back would have been myself. I spent 20+ in law enforcement, I learned you treat people the way they want to be treated by their actions. You don’t demand respect, you earn it, it works both ways.

Good cops are not worried about scrutiny on behavior that they have never been guilty of or ever will be. It's time for bad cops to be persecuted and removed from policing.

woodguu,

In your infinite wisdom please tell your a****a and b*m thugs how to identify the good cops doing their job.
Right now all cops are being “persecuted”. How about you start telling thugs to comply with commands given by police. If you don’t run or fight, or “resist” you won’t get hurt. If you aren’t guilty there is no need to run. In my 20+yrs in LE I NEVER had to chase an innocent person or wrestle with them. Respect is a two way street.

In your mind a****a doesn’t exist, they’re merely an ideology. Kind of like VW falsifying their emissions reports, oh that was okay they wanted unions. You had no response to that, you can run but you can’t hide.
The “boogie man” is hiding in your closet with your black hoodie, mask, pants, and your frozen water bottles, canned goods, rocks and skateboard you use as weapons.

Do you really think your little uprising about Volkswagens emissions snafu changes anything I said. They wanted their workers to have union representation .
For a corporation to require Tennessee to make sure they had union representatives
Is more than rare around those parts.
I personally would love to work for Volkswagen. They seem to be concerned about having happy employees.
Also rare around those parts.

Milo,

Do you realize your above post shows the real extent of your hypocrisy. VW was going against your progressive agenda by falsifying their emission reports. That’s okay with you as long as they are wanting unions. You are in so deep you can’t see the foolishness and hypocrisy of your post. Grab hold of your ears and pull your head out.

Tell me why in Tennessee when Volkswagen was working on a plan to move a factory there, Volkswagen required that workers had union Representation.
Bob Corker was dead set against it.
It was what Volkswagen wanted.
You see your complaints are unfounded.
Germany favors unions, they have better workforce’s when workers get a fair shake.
Germany requires union leaders at the big negotiating table for the country.

milo,

You mean the same company that was sued for falsifying their emission readings on their engines? I don't put any credence in a company that lies or c***ts to do business in our country. I'm sure they wanted union representation, they're very astute at covering things up. You're going to have to do better than that example.
Of course that's what they wanted to endear themselves to the dems. Germany is run by a liberal leader, so of course they favor unions, makes it easier for them to do business. Again your example reinforces how unions can control government. Why should they be required at the negotiating table for the country? Not all jobs in any country require a union, it's called control. Just like the dem movement of giving freebies, get the citizens to rely on the government and you can control them.
Lay off the double shots of purple kool-aid.

Glad to tickle your funny bone. You must have been rolling on the floor listening to joe the joke. You must be one of those union members working hard at avoiding work.

You should already have a right to organize unions in workplaces. Unions built the middle class. Reagan destroyed it all.

Milo,

President Reagan was in office from 81 to 89, why haven’t the administration’s after him fixed what you claimed he “destroyed”.
Unions have over served their purpose for years. No one has taken away the right to form a union. Does a union have the right to tell you, you can’t work unless you join the union? Thank God some states have passed the “right to work” laws. Unions want more money for doing less work and then protect the lazy lumps because they’re union members. I’ve worked with lumps that called in sick constantly or took longer breaks and lunch hours yet the union protected them and other workers had to pick up the slack. Without unions or associations the lumps can be eliminated from the work force.
They will destroy the middle class, look at the teachers unions. They want more money for working 9 months out of the year and we the taxpayers pay for their salaries.
Keep hitting that purple kool-aid. You better get a second job or go back to work to pay for joe the jokes freebies. Someone has to pay those union teachers.
