WH Tells Democrat to Quit Complaining -- 'Work With Us' on Border Security

(CNSNews.com) - President Trump's decision to send National Guard troops to the Southwest border drew a critical tweet from Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), who tweeted on Wednesday: "Using the National Guard to do border security is very expensive. For what it would cost the Guard to make just TWO arrests at the border, we could give a homeless veteran permanent housing for an entire year."
A reporter on Wednesday asked White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders to respond:
"I don't think you can put a cost on American life," Sanders said. "The president sees securing the border as a national security issue and protecting Americans.
"If that congressman's so concerned, maybe he ought to show up and actually support legislation that would fix these problems instead of blaming the president, who's actually trying to do something about it. We'd like to see him work with us in partnership and actually do something, instead of just complain about it."
Gallego tweeted back to Sanders: "Hey @PressSec - Unlike your boss, I did show up and served my country in the Marines. Now, I show up in Congress to serve my country again and act as a check to some of your boss’s worst plans."
As CNSNews.com reported, the White House is now preparing immigration/border control legislation to send to Congress, and one senior administration official on Wednesday predicted that the issue of border security will be one of the biggest issues facing Congress in the months ahead

50,308 Stopped at Mexican Border Last Month, Up 203% From March '17

(CNSNews.com) - More than fifty thousand people -- 50,308 -- were either apprehended or deemed inadmissible at the Southwest border last month, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said on Wednesday. It's the highest monthly total of the Trump presidency.
The 50,308 apprehended/inadmissibles in March is a 37 percent increase from the 36,695 counted in February, but a whopping 203 percent increase from March 2017's 16,588.
CBP said the number of family units increased by 49 percent from February to March, and the number of unaccompanied children increased by 41 percent compared to February.
"The traffickers and smugglers know that, if you arrive with a family, under our current legal and court system, you have a much better chance of being released into the United States," Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen told the White House press briefing on Wednesday. "We have seen the smugglers advertise this as an enticement. And we have seen traffickers, unfortunately, fraudulently use children to gain entry into our country."
In a conference call with reporters on Wednesday, a senior administration official, speaking on background, noted that in April 2017, the number of apprehended/inadmissibles dropped to a historic low of 15,766.
"We are no longer at that point," the official said. "The numbers we'll be releasing for March...will indicate a staggering increase from last year. And they clearly emphasize the need for additional actions."
According to CBP, last month, 37,393 individuals were apprehended between ports of entry on the Southwest border, compared with 26,662 in February and 25,978 in Janury.
Another 12,915 people were deemed inadmissible at ports of entry on the Southwest border last month, compared with 10,021 in February, and 9,839 in January.
Looking at annual totals, CBP said in Fiscal Year 2017, USBP apprehended 303,916 individuals along the Southwest Border, compared with 408,870 in FY16; 331,333 in FY15; and 479,371 in FY14.
In FY 2017, 111,275 individuals were deemed inadmissible compared to 150,825 in FY16; 114,486 in FY15; and 90,601 in FY14.
President Trump on Wednesday authorized the deployment of National Guard troops to the Southwest border to support the Border Patrol in halting i*****l i*********n.
"Given the importance of secure borders to our national security, the National Guard, in coordination with governors, will remain in a support role until Congress takes the action necessary to close the loopholes undermining our border security efforts, including ending the practice of Catch and Release," the announcement said.
The Trump White House noted that President Barack Obama sent National Guard trooops to the border in 2012, and President George W. Bush did so as well during his term.
The announcement said Trump is taking action "because congressional Democrats have obstructed efforts to secure our border."

President Donald Trump made another pitch for his border wall on Friday, saying it is needed to help stop violent MS-13 gang members from sneaking into the United States from Mexico.
Trump noted thousands of the gang members are being removed from the U.S. by federal agents, only to return from their homes in El Salvador through Mexico.
Trump's comments came in an early morning tweet.
The president has declared war on the gang, which has been tied to crimes in 22 states.
There are 500 cases across the nation of the gang members being charged in major crimes, including 207 murders.
The Senate blocked a bipartisan proposal last week that would have allowed people protected under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program an opportunity for citizenship, while allowing $25 billion toward a border wall.

WATCH:
The raid resulted in the arrests of 212 i*****l i*******ts and the targeting of 122 businesses. ICE said that 88 percent of those arrested were either convicted criminals, had been issued a final order of removal but stayed in the United States, or had been previously deported.
Fifty-five percent of the i*****l i*******ts arrested were previously convicted on serious or violent offenses, such as child sex crimes, assault, or weapons charges, or were convicted of significant or multiple misdemeanors.
The raid also sent notices of inspection to 122 businesses, which will be required to verify that all of their employees are legally in the United States.
Acting ICE director Thomas Homan slammed the state of California for their sanctuary law, which allows jails to release criminal i*****l i*******ts even if ICE requests they hold them for deportation. Homan alleged that being unable to deport i*****l i*******ts from jail has made the large-scale raids more necessary.
“Because sanctuary jurisdictions like Los Angeles prevent ICE from arresting criminal aliens in the secure confines of a jail, our officers are forced to conduct at-large arrests in the community, putting officers, the general public and the aliens at greater risk and increasing the incidents of collateral arrests,” said Homan.

Officers with the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office started to investigate Del Angel in early 2017 when the allegations about raping the 7-year-old girl surfaced.
According to the ABC affiliate in Louisiana, police arrested the i*****l i*******t on January 25 and charged him with first-degree rape and molestation of a juvenile.
Less than three weeks later, prosecutors charged Del Angel with sexually assaulting the girl’s mother in 2003 when she was only 11-years-old. The alleged sexual molestation occurred at least two times.
Bossier Parish law enforcement authorities told the ABC affiliate that the i*****l i*******t has known the victims’ family for at least 20 years.
Del Angel is in custody in the Bossier Maximum Security Facility with a $550,000 bond. Louisiana officials are cooperating U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Some 90% of all i*****l a***ns arrested last year had criminal convictions on their records or criminal charges pending against them, according to a new analysis of data from Immigration and Customs Enforcement done by the Pew Research Center.
"Immigrants with past criminal convictions accounted for 74% of all arrests made by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in fiscal 2017, according to data from the agency. The remainder were classified as 'non-criminal' arrestees, including 16% with pending criminal charges and 11% with no known criminal convictions or charges," Pew said.
So, President Trump is doing just what he said he'd do: arrest i*****l a***ns with criminal records.
In fact, it was former President Barack Obama who didn't do that. "The profile of ICE arrestees has changed considerably in the past eight years: In fiscal 2009, the earliest year with comparable data, immigrants without past criminal convictions accounted for the majority (61%) of those arrested by the agency," Pew wrote.
Overall, the number of ICE arrests decreased sharply during that span, from 297,898 in 2009 (the year President Barack Obama came into office) to 143,470 in 2017 (when President Donald Trump took office). Among ICE arrestees in 2017 with prior convictions, the most common criminal conviction category was driving under the influence of alcohol (59,985 convictions, or 16% of the total), followed by possessing or selling “dangerous drugs” such as opioids (57,438, or 15%). Immigration offenses, which include illegal entry or false claim to U.S. citizenship, were the third-most common crime type (52,128 convictions, or 14%). Those arrested can have more than one type of conviction or pending charge so the total number of charges and convictions is greater than the total number of arrestees; ICE counts an immigrant with a prior criminal conviction and pending criminal charges only in the criminal conviction category.
In the report, titled "Most immigrants arrested by ICE have prior criminal convictions, a big change from 2009," Pew said "Assault ranked among the five most common pending criminal charges and conviction categories for ICE arrestees in 2017, accounting for 11% and 8% respectively. Other violent crime categories were much less common. Sexual assault, kidnapping and homicide each made up 1% or fewer of both pending charges and prior convictions."
In 2017, nearly nine-in-ten ICE arrests in the Los Angeles area (88%), which covers much of Southern California, were of those with past criminal convictions. This was the highest share of any ICE area of responsibility. In all ICE areas, considerable majorities of arrests were for those with prior convictions; the Newark area (which covers all of New Jersey) was lowest, with 60% criminal arrests.

Some 90% of all i*****l a***ns arrested last year had criminal convictions on their records or criminal charges pending against them, according to a new analysis of data from Immigration and Customs Enforcement done by the Pew Research Center.
"Immigrants with past criminal convictions accounted for 74% of all arrests made by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in fiscal 2017, according to data from the agency. The remainder were classified as 'non-criminal' arrestees, including 16% with pending criminal charges and 11% with no known criminal convictions or charges," Pew said.
So, President Trump is doing just what he said he'd do: arrest i*****l a***ns with criminal records.
In fact, it was former President Barack Obama who didn't do that. "The profile of ICE arrestees has changed considerably in the past eight years: In fiscal 2009, the earliest year with comparable data, immigrants without past criminal convictions accounted for the majority (61%) of those arrested by the agency," Pew wrote.
