Belief is fine. It is how you use it that is at question. A brief Bible quote or introductory idea is fine, in a secular or political discussion. But it should relate or tie in with the topic under discussion. I sometimes quote a scripture to call out a person overly proud of his/her Christionhood when they have shown a surprisingly non Christian attitude or belief. It is a fact that atheists on average score better on tests of Bible knowlege and general religious knowledge than any other group, even fundamentalist Christians!
Sometimes a familiar Bible quote communicates a host of ideas succinctly. Some of the Bible's poetry is nice, too.

I don't particularly mind talking about religion or atheism but prefer to keep my conversations on topic and not switch topics with each and every brain fart, Christian or secular.

There are those that Truly Believe that due to our Creator God, Government is, as well as all things are- for that matter. It isn't a choice that we believe that, it is truly how we are wired, it is how we are. To get us to stop you would have to resort to persecuting us like they do overseas.
The difference between you and me: I want all to have an 'informed' choice about believing in God, or not. Under the God I worship, that is my job. You, just wish we would go away, no matter how, because there is no choice for us to shut up. You will never hear the Spirit of God whine.
