The only good tree is a stump. Is that what you are saying? Is not a reduction in deficit spending good? Lets not forget G W Bush's 8 years and fighting 2 wars on borrowed money while making a 10 year tax cut to make the population appeased while the walls wer crumbling.? Those tax cuts decreased government revenue to apoint where borrowing is neccesary. Those tax cuts are hurting us.

FOM,
Deficit and national debt are two different things, the fact that the 2013 deficit ratio decreased from the 2012 ratio reflects several things, one being increased tax revenue (one being the expiration of payroll tax holiday), sequestration reduction of spending forced on Obama by the opposing party, and reduced spending on the Afghanistan "war". The debt still increased by 680 BILLION dollars in 2013 (as compared to 1087 BILLION deficit in 2012). The reason this is a reduction is because it was so astronomically high in Obama's previous four years. Maybe with the many taxes contained in ACA the "ratio" can again be lowered temporarily before the GDP starts to falter.

Our national debt has doubled under the Obama administration (equal to all debt of all previous administrations combined). If, for some reason the interest rate on our national debt rises, causing increased outgo, the unsustainable point caused by the many "benefits programs", will arrive in even a shorter time.

Maybe we should, as you say, consider import/export restrictions, do you see this happening ?

This administration needs to quit pushing government dependency programs and implement something meaningful like developing a national energy policy, abandoning this "g****l w*****g" carbon tax scheme, oops, they have changed that wording to "c*****e c****e" now with all the cooling that is going on, or how about not calling CO2 (what you breathe out and trees need to live in order to produce oxygen) a pollutant so it can be taxed ?? Some program besides giving money to banking friends to create jobs.

If I read you right you want to wait until the debt is unsustainable before we do anything different ??? Well, that is one way to go...

You are very quick to call others liars. The right wing extremists call Obama a liar whatever he says. If he says good morning, some winger is going to say that it isn't and that Obama is lying. Lets use the word judiciously so it will not be stripped of its meaning entirely.

Musically I would choose Joan Baez for her song Warriors of the Sun and Bruce Cockburn for Wondering where the Lions are Scientists I would choose would be Louis Pasteur and George Washington Carver.

You are mistaken.I will say the country is very divided on political beliefs. You are Tea Party I am Independant and like fire and water one works against the other.

The deficit was 9.2 % GDP in 2007 By2013 it was 4.1% source Washington Post. I expect that number to improve. I understand where you are comeing from but along with evry other nation we are a borrower. We need to be both bold and cautios at the same time. Right now in CoosBay Raw douglas fir logs are being exported away with those logs go sawmill jobs. A good start would be to forbid exports of our raw materials.Allow exports of our finished products only.

fom,
you say you are "on the front lines", but we are ALL on the front lines, the "small improvement" you see is IN SPITE of this administrations policies; sustained only by its borrowing policies.
Consider yourself just getting a credit card and starting to use it for wh**ever you wanted, you would have an "improvement" in your financial well being for a period of time as you accumulated debt. I mention this so you can personally relate to what is causing the "small improvement" in the economy you seem to think this admin's policies are causing.
The government is borrowing approx 85 billion dollars a month (FED credits) in order to sustain that "small improvement" you are talking about. (The US government is pumping about 1 trillion dollars a year of borrowed money into the "economy"; we, as a country are presently living on that credit card.)
Question for you...where would you be when your credit card reached its limit,(I think your "small improvement" would end) and how much interest would you have paid in the process? And where would you go from there?
We need to change our jobs/taxation/dependency/energy policies in order to create jobs before that happens.
We, as a nation, are really being had, and I some how think all this is lost on you.....

Actually, the first use of "redneck" was in Scotland in the 1600s. Scottish commoners who eventually became the religious denomination known as Presbyterians commonly wore a red neckerchief, and were called "rednecks" by the aristocracy. While the term did refer to poor southern farmers, it originally was applied, in the late 19th century, to all poor farmers. The term was also used to describe early miners' union members, who wore red bandanas. I watch too much Jeopardy.

What was not mentioned in this article was that Lincoln ordered federal troops to move against the starving Minnesota Soiux the same day he declared Thanksgiving to be a national holiday

The extremists give us examples of extremism. Randall is an extremist who calls Democrats Facist and the President an imperial dictator. he says there are real American patriots in the Republican party who are trying to save America but there are Foriegners in the party who are only pretending to be patriots. I can only conclude he is a Teapublican seeing the need to further purge all those who don't follow the pure practices of the Teaparty movement. I would say keep him just if he gets too wordy he needs to be reminded to keep it simple and short others may have something to say.ew

What thoughts do you have about trying to continue this thread? What would we have to do to make it work. Some have suggested that we probably shouldn't attempt to drop the extremists as they are examples of the focus of this thread. I don't know.
