I love my mother. She is one of the kindest and sweetest people you will ever meet and I would be nothing without her. I’ve never heard her say a bad word about anyone, never mind anything overtly terrible, like the type of thing, for example, you might hear from Tucker Carlson or Sean Hannity. But I do know, much to my dismay, that she has watched them on TV a lot over the years. As such, my mom and I have agreed to not talk about politics anymore. The cognitive dissonance between this lovely woman finding something appealing in the most xenophobic pundits on TV is too hard for me to reconcile. I don’t want to think about it.

It turns out there are a lot of families across the country who have a similar arrangement, or worse, in which people have stopped talking altogether to relatives they feel have been stolen from them by Fox News.


To be clear, Fox News didn’t invent the w***e s*******y and r****m at the heart of America, but the channel has definitely supercharged it. It’s also important to point out that “My parents watched the bad TV and got r****t off it” is clearly a much less serious problem than being someone whose life is put at risk by the type of stuff Fox News promotes. That doesn’t make seeing someone you care about slide into the myopic bubble of right wing propaganda any easier.


I mentioned the idea of losing family to Fox News brain on Twitter the other day, and unsurprisingly, a lot of people had their own similar stories. I asked some of them to share how it felt.

Proverbs 18:17 strikes at the heart of one of our culture’s favorite pastimes–engaging in confirmation bias. Confirmation bias causes us to evaluate stories in light of our preconceived notions about what is true. We hear a story, filter it through our preexisting grid, and develop a snap judgment about it without hearing the other side of the story.
Solomon’s words in Proverbs 18:17 force us to reevaluate this practice. Solomon agrees that the first side of the story always sounds right, especially when it reinforces what we already believe to be true. However, he also said that the case falls apart when another person examines him. The story that seemed so juicy when we first heard it often loses its luster when the rest of the story comes into view

First Lady Melania Trump is one of the most beautiful, regal and gracious first ladies.

In contrast, Michelle Obama was reported to be a male. When she wore shorts, look at her legs, and her body. I think it looks like a man.

When Obama first was a candidate, Michelle said this:
Mar 12, 2008 - "For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country".
Prior to that she h**ed our country where she benefitted most of her life. I think Michelle Obama has no social grace, to stay at the WH. She hired 23 assistants at the taxpayers' expense.

All of the other First Ladies have 1,2, 5 assistants only. First Lady Meme Eisenhower paid her 1 assistant with her own money. Did not use the taxpayer' money.

First Lady Melania Trump is very gracious, very smart and speaks 5 languages. She is gracious, gentle a regal lady. I am proud she is our First Lady.
