Boy, Kevyn, you really are a paranoid conspiratalist. We in the US not only interfere in other people's e******ns (what do you think the US-financed NGOs were doing in Russia before Putin shut them down?), we go all the way and affect regime change, often via murder. Remember Allende in Chile and Diem in Viet Nam (both with a democrat in the White House)? No Russian pressured me or anyone I know of to v**e for President Trump in 2016; the Democrats did that all by themselves. Are you trying to tell us that the Israeli v**ers were wrong in electing Netanyahu four times in a row? Your rantings are irrational!

I specified P**********l E******ns, not Congressional E******ns. I am familiar with the Federalist Papers and the arguments that raged to and fro from that time forward, but the arguments for won out. President Trump's win in the EC was a repeat of Bush's a few years earlier, but the Democrats did not seem to remember. So, who's to blame?

He would have had to have committed a crime in order to be impeached. What was the underlying crime? That seems to be missing from the discussion to date. "Obstruction" because of the firing of Comey won't pass the "smell test" because, by any rational standard, Comey deserved to be fired as he clearly manipulated events (or allowed them to be manipulated) to give Hillary Clinton a pass on what was a felony. If the Democrats manage to remove President Trump on the trumped up (no pun intended) charges of collusion with the Russians, when the only collusion that occurred was evidently between the Russians and the Democrats, it will amount to an extrajudicial c**p and as I have said before that amounts to treason. The Democrats should think very carefully about that because events could quickly spiral out of their control, as indicated by Bahmer.

Facts dave, facts... Not the BS the right wing spits..

This past Monday, January 16, marked a full year since the oft-debated nuclear agreement between the United States, its negotiating partners, and Iran, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was officially implemented.

Contrary to the doubts of critics, the agreement has been a certifiable success in its first year, achieving its objects of blocking Iran’s path to a nuclear weapon and increasing visibility into Iran’s nuclear activities.

The agreement has placed significant restrictions on Iran’s nuclear activity, effectively blocking paths to both a uranium-based and plutonium-based nuclear weapon.

Under the agreement, Iran is permitted to keep only a small amount of low-enriched uranium and is forbidden from enriching it beyond 3.67 percent (for reference, 90 percent is considered weapons-grade uranium).

To comply, Iran removed 97 percent of its low-enriched uranium, dramatically reducing its nuclear proliferation capabilities in a verifiable and irreversible way.

The agreement has also frozen and reversed Iran’s dramatic increase in centrifuges to enrich uranium. In 2006, Iran had 164 centrifuges. Despite international condemnation, sanctions, and sabotage, Iran grew its capabilities to nearly 20,000 installed centrifuges, with plans to continue expanding and advancing its technology.

Under the agreement, Iran is permitted to operate around 6,000 first generation centrifuges. To comply, Iran has removed two-thirds of its centrifuges, and is permitted only limited testing of advanced technologies.

The agreement has also effectively blocked Iran’s path to a plutonium-based nuclear weapon.

Before the agreement, Iran was preparing to operate a nuclear reactor capable of producing enough plutonium annually for two nuclear weapons. Under the agreement, Iran has removed the core of the reactor and rendered it inoperable.

The facility is being redesigned to ensure it will not produce weapons-grade plutonium, and all spent fuel produced by the facility will be sent out of the country to prevent Iran from obtaining plutonium from the radioactive waste.

These restrictions have been, and will continue to be, enforced and verified primarily by inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), a nuclear watchdog organization tasked with ensuring Iran’s limited nuclear activity has only peaceful purposes.

IAEA inspectors have been granted unprecedented access to Iran’s nuclear facilities, allowing for consistent monitoring through the use of technology and physical inspections, effectively cutting off a covert path to a nuclear weapon. The core restrictions of the deal last at least 10 years, with others, including some key verification clauses, stretching 25 years and beyond.

In return, the United States, European Union, and United Nations have waived sanctions applied on Iran for its nuclear weapons activity and granted Iran access to assets previously restricted in foreign accounts. International sanctions on Iran for other nefarious activities, including its violation of human rights and sponsorship of terrorism, are still in effect.

Although the total value of sanctions relief that Iran has received is difficult to estimate, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, Jack Lew, stated in a congressional hearing that it would be about $56 billion.

Overall, it has been a successful year for the agreement. When disputes have arisen, either through an honest mistake or in an attempt to test the waters, the situations have been resolved quickly and without incident.

Twice in 2016, Iran has briefly exceeded the cap on heavy water, a material used in the operation of some nuclear reactors. In both instances, the IAEA raised concerns and Iran reduced its inventory.

As the JCPOA enters its second year of implementation, and its first year under the new Trump administration, it is critical that the United States continues to actively monitor and enforce the agreement.

The United States must ensure the IAEA has the resources it needs to thoroughly monitor Iran. The U.S. also must live up to its obligations to refrain from reimposing sanctions on Iran, if they are not warranted for other activities.

This will require a smooth hand-off between the outgoing and incoming p**********l administrations.

While President-elect Trump has previously expressed discontent with the agreement, both his nominee for Secretary of Defense, Gen. James Mattis, and the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), have advised that the United States should continue to implement it.

The JCPOA’s successful first year of implementation is a cause for optimism for the international community, placing the threat of an Iranian nuclear weapon under lock and key for the foreseeable future.

The agreement addresses key concerns about Iran’s nuclear program in a peaceful, verifiable way, without removing any future options from the U.S. playbook, and all without firing a shot.
We will never know if the TPP would have worked as... (show quote)

It reads like a piece plagiarized from another source. Anyhow, I'm a nuclear guy (a prof. in a nuclear engineering department at a major west coast university) and I can tell you that if Iran really wanted to produce weapons-grade 235U92 or 239Pu94 without us knowing, it would not be difficult. To prevent that one would need "resident inspectors" who could look over the Iranian's shoulders all of the time. We do not have that. My prediction is that we will wake up in the not-too-distant future and find that the Iranians have tested a weapon.

By not putting the sanctions on Russia, trump has kept his money laundering from becoming public news for now..

The sanctions themselves include People and business which do international business between Russia and the west..

That would include the banks which have floated money to trump.

Lone Wolf, you do not appear to understand how the political system works in America. It takes a "super-majority" of 60 % to pass a bill in the Senate unless one invokes the "nuclear option (NO)", in which case only a simple majority is required. Harry Reid foolishly introduced the NO a few years ago, which effectively rewrote the Senate rules. That precedent was then used by President Trump to get the tax legislation through and it could be used to pass other legislation as well. However, with a few "flakes" (pun intended) in the Republican caucus, including RINO McCain, it is doubtful that even that would work. So you are incorrect when you claim that the Republicans control all three branches of government; it still requires bipartisan support. Unfortunately, the Democrats are on a paid vacation in WDC having contributed nothing to the running of the country; something that will not be lost on v**ers in November, I am sure. Finally, you referring to "trump a t*****r to America" is reprehensible as he was legitimately elected in spite of what we now see as the collusion between the Democrats and the Russians aided and abetted by the criminal activities within the FBI and DoJ.

The Russians must be really incompetent if they successfully hacked the 2016 e******n and were not able to change anything. They need to take a lesson from the CIA on how to affect "regime change", as we have a long and sordid history on doing that very successfully. Remember Allende in Chile and Diem in Viet Nam as just two examples of many that I could cite. We do it properly, we eliminate with extreme prejudice those that we do not like. Obama was a master at that with drone strikes against US citizen's, no less. It is hard not to be a hypocrite on this subject.

Let them leave. We should be like the Israelis and give them a helping hand and we should never let them return. Schiff is simply a fool who peddles "the big lie" and thinks that, we the American public, are stupid enough to be taken in by it all. Importantly, "the big lie" is the trade-mark of the left and was made famous by Lenin (or Marx) who said (paraphrased) "tell a lie enough times and it becomes the t***h". In that sense, Schiff and the Democrats are keeping good company because it defines who they really are. Schiff and his ilk should understand that a lie is still a lie no matter how many times it is told.
