The reason the southern states left the union was because of state rights being trampled by the federal government. Lincoln really had no right under the constitution to do what he did, but he didn't seem to care very much. Lincoln was really a bad President, but you can't get many people to agree with you with what they are taught in school now days.

Yes, they were a different country after they left the union and no the President did not have the right to send troops to S.C. and start the invasion. He had no authority to do that under our constitution, but then the federal government was doing a lot of things back then that drove them out. After they lost the war, they had to come back into the union since they had left it and there were a lot of things done to the South for leaving and to teach them a lesson. States lost more of their rights after the war and continue to do so today. There are still hard feelings to this day because of what was done to them back then and the fact that they were forced to come back into the union. If they had a choice today, I think they would still leave the union.

I have studied that war quite a bit and I still think that Lee cost them the war at Gettysburg. If he had won that battle, the war would have been over right then and the South would be a really different place. What really cost them the war was lack of communication and the fact he would not listen to his generals advice. He was just to bull headed.
The reason the southern states left the union was ... (show quote)

Thanks Mr. Ed. Some great insight!

In cages? Good. Running around my house....not so good. While my sons were growing up we had all manner of animals ..... Once my son brought home a goat. That was fun. Another time a turtle that had been hit by a car; bondo (for fixing cars) worked well with crazy glue....it lived!

I took her remark the way it was meant. I guess you are just having a bad day or something. That's OK, we all do. It is nice that you two worked it out so there are no hard feelings.

You are so right! I was at a function where people had just a wee too much to drink and of course an argument broke out and I tried to be a peacemaker which did not turn out as intended......Just a very bad day! I hope that you and other readers will forgive me for being trite! I explained it, I hope, well enough to Ms. Waco. I am not normally this way. I think that a long hot shower after I walk my dog and a good nights sleep will cure my............ lack of manners.

I was only talking about PRESIDENTS who were impeached, CONVICTED, and REMOVED!!!!. The number is still ZERO! You might wish to read more carefully. I wasn't talking about the impeachment of other types of office holders.

Got it. Another poster corrected me and I did make a mistake in reading an "or" rather than an "and" in the list. Please see comments right above your entry.

Have a good one, Sweet Girl.....It's late for me....tired....going to bed....and glad that it's all okay.

Okay, a quick lesson that will give you a new demission. When you reply to a comment, look to your left. You see the small box called Smilies? You can click (select) one by placing your mouse over the icon you want and left click the mouse; and it will be inserted into your comment. See the tags? If you want to bold something use the bracket right after the P on your key board, be sure that it is lower case [ and then insert the letter for example B for bold and close the bracket ]. When you finish typing what you want to be bold, again use the bracket [ and then insert the slash mark right under the question mark on your key board then the same code you used like the B for bold and then close it off with a bracket ]. Use the same technique for colors, underlining, inserting a link (URL), image, and to quote. I hope this helps!

Good night and sleep well! :D :D

Your comment was very short and did not give indication of emotions other than laughing out loud which can be perceived as negative. I would not have taken it in a negative way if you had used a "smilies," or been somewhat more definitive. I did not mean to offend you, you are always quite welcome to post as you wish to any of my threads or comments; whether you agree with me or not. I like feedback, I am not always right as you can see with my jumping the gun on your brief comment. I am truly sorry, I was wrong in my response to you. Forgive me? Please.

I wish you, your family, and friends a most delightful and merry Christmas. I pray that your hearts will be filled with love, your tummy filled with great food, and most of all I wish you peace!

Where in the world did you EVER read into that that I disapprove or find your post contemptible?
And, why in the world should you offer an apology? You said nothing for which to apologize.
Frankly, I found your post informative, as I always have trouble with "affect" and "effect"...and several others you mentioned....and need constant reminding.
My post was simply a wish that grammar was all with we had to concern ourselves, particularly at this season, and I believe a lot of others would agree.....and be joyful that we didn't have to worry about war, financial collapse, etc.
I will comment that you seem to take affront to my posts, for some reason unknown to me, because I usually find yours quite informative, polite, researched and intellectual.
BUT, if you do not want me to post to your topics or remarks, all you have to do is ask me not to.
I am polite and respectful enough to never do so again.
And,...ginnyt.....Have a VERRRRY Merry Christmas, a happy, a beautiful, and a worthy one....because I will never believe there's been an unworthy one.
And, wasn't that your Christmas video that came up earlier?
It was delightful....and you have a beautiful family.
Namaste......and peace be unto you, ginnyt.

I believe Brian was speaking of Presidents who were impeached, convicted, and removed from office...not just impeached, my lady. Impeachment is somewhat like an indictment, of sorts, I think. Neither Johnson nor Clinton were convicted, or removed from office.

Okay, I spoke of impeachment or removal. As for the two presidents, I did make mention that they were not convicted. But, to say that a president has not ever been impeached is misleading. Many citizens think that impeachment is an automatic removal from office, which is an error. I would like to see Obama impeached. He will not be removed from office, but an impeachment would send the right signal to those who will try to follow his road map.

I do appreciate you pointing out the error that I made in reading the list as independent actions rather than a collective. It is so refreshing that you would correct me in such a polite manner in support of your friend Brian. Thanks again.

It wasn't just v***r f***d that got him in there, it was the Chicago machine style fraud that did it. There were two bus loads of non English speaking v**ers that came into one v****g location and had to have someone show them how to v**e. They also had over 100% of the registered v**ers show up at some locations and 100% of the v**e went to Obama at some. They had people v****g twice and people went around some districts asking people if they were going to v**e. If they said no, then they had someone v**e for them. One lady changed her mind and went to v**e only to find out she had already had someone v**e for her. Machines that changed the v**e to Obama and a whole world of fraud that was going on. What you were talking about is just the tip of the iceberg.

I do recall. In my humble opinion, the v**e was r****d in so many ways. From bussing, to the Panthers intimidating, to the dead, v****g two or three times, and the i******s!

What part of ZERO do you impeachment advocates not get? Zero is the number of presidents impeached, convicted, and removed from office. You will have to just wait your turn in the next e******n. That's what out-of-power parties always do. The only people for whom impeachment talk makes sense are the right wing pundits who have mega$$$$$$ book deals and mega$$$$$$ speaking engagements. Fear sells!!!!!!

I believe you are wrong on the impeachment. Since 1797 the House of Representatives has impeached sixteen federal officials. These include two presidents, a cabinet member, a senator, a justice of the Supreme Court, and eleven federal judges. Of those, the Senate has convicted and removed seven, all of them judges. Not included in this list are the office holders who have resigned rather than face impeachment, most notably, President Richard M. Nixon. Neither, Presidents Andrew Johnson or Bill Clinton were convicted. Johnson was saved from being found guilty by the Senate by one v**e. Bill Clinton was a different story. Clinton was impeached on two counts, grand jury perjury (228–206) and obstruction of justice (221–212), with the v**es split along party lines. The Senate Republicans, however, were unable to gather enough support to achieve the two-thirds majority required for his conviction. On Feb. 12, 1999, the Senate acquitted President Clinton on both counts. The perjury charge failed by a v**e of 55–45, with 10 Republicans v****g against impeachment along with all 45 Democrats. The obstruction of justice v**e was 50–50, with 5 Republicans breaking ranks to v**e against impeachment.

Of thirty-five attempts at impeachment, only nine have come to trial. Because it cripples Congress with a lengthy trial, impeachment is infrequent. Many officials, seeing the writing on the wall, resign rather than face the ignominy of a public trial.
