That's why I've always been non partisan. I refuse to be called "independent" because that's a term coined, by both Democrats and Republicans, to denote anyone "not dem, not repub" as though all political identities generate from those two party's exclusively. BTW, that's also why no "independent" is allowed to debate with 'the big boys" ( exception - Ross Perot, he bought his way in ). Both dems and repubs threaten to pull all campaign ad revenue from any network that attempts to allow independents in - and - refuse to participate.
Dems and repubs have been cooperating for years and years, to convince folk that a vote for an independent is "wasting your vote" - because ONLY a dem or repub will gain office. That's a complete fabrication, but it's stuck in most folks heads. The fact is, EVERY vote counts, no matter who or what party one votes for. For instance, let's say that 49% vote Dem and 51% vote repub. The repub wins, so did the other 49% waste THEIR vote? If it were a horse race, then yeah, they wasted their vote because they didn't win - but - it's NOT a horse race, in fact it's not a race at all - so why do we call it a "race"?
At any rate, until folks decide that personal beliefs, values and hopes are more important than "party", we'll not see any change in our countries' direction. We have allowed politicians to contaminate our thinking with the concepts of "winning is everything" and " it's all or nothing" - because that thinking benefits THEM - not us. When the majority rejects partisan game playing, refuses to be drawn into political shenanigans and starts demanding REAL candidates ( not the made for TV, scripted, coached and handled candidate ) - we'll see an immediate difference in how this country is run. We'll see elected officials who actually represent their constituents wishes - not the party bosses - or their financial backers.
That's why I've always been non partisan. I refuse... (
