In the 1950's 60's and 70's construction workers that built tract homes could afford to by them because they were unionized workers.. Today its all non union and none of the people building then can by them. They are mostly Mexican immigrants with three families living In a two bedroom rented house and you cant reach them for directions to the next job because they cant afford to pay the phone bill
Oh, please! Can't afford to pay the phone bill. If any Mexican immigrants were that poor they wouldn't be staying here.

Not "who", but "what"...the Trans-Pacific Partnership is the latest among those nefarious, globalized, so-called "free-trade" deals that will enhance international corporate power over governments and citizens' sovereign rights. Some refer to it as "NAFTA on steroids", and jjudging by what little info has made it to the public, that's an understatement. The corporatists in both parties want to give Obama fast-track authority to push it through. I think they're voting on it this month. A travesty.

if the 5.00 hr man is picking 25 bushels a day and you are picking 5 bushels a day you do the math.

if the pickers pay taxes you as a planter will pay much more.

no one is a slave if he works for wages, and he can leave anytime he wishes.this slave crap is just a lie.

The slave thing is not a lie. When a man has mouths to feed he can most certainly be manipulated and used in a way that takes advantage of him. The "You can just leave thing" is what the crap is. Thats bullshit tough guy rhetoric.

Absolutely!! And screw the corporations. Shoulda let GM & Chrysler fail and file bankruptcy. That's what an individual has to do. No more corporate welfare. No more lobbyists. No more "entitlements".

i dont know where you get your info but gm did go bankrupt.it was a way to get the honest stock holders out and get the union and the govt as major stock holders.

Can you buy groceries tax free ? Can you buy gasoline tax free ? Can you buy clothing tax free ? Do minimum wage workers pay into social security and Medicare ? Possibly not , if they buy everything on the black market or steal the the food and clothing. Maybe they work under the table. Some minimum wage workers will still be due some income tax also. You must not pay taxes either , right ?

So says everyone - not on minimum wage. It would be commendable for everyone to "better themselves" - if it were possible. Not everyone can take on $50,000 - $100,000 of debt, expect to pay for it for 20 years - and better themselves at the same time.

How many college graduates are out of work? How many NEW graduates can't find jobs in their field of study? How many college graduates are working minimum wage jobs? How many jobs, created in the last 6 years, are NOT minimum wage jobs?

Reality is a bitch. Philosphizing by folks NOT on minimum wage is a luxury only THEY can enjoy. Folks forced to work for minimum wage, don't have time for intellectual ponderings and economic theories - they're busy trying not to starve.

There are literally millions of good paying jobs available right now, today, that are going unfilled. Plumbers, electricians, truck drivers, machinists, pipe fitters, carpenters, etc. You get on them through apprenticeships which pay a fraction of journeyman wages as you work your way up to journeyman level. Not everyone needs college to feed their families. Unlike yourself, some people get their hands dirty while they pull down a paycheck.

It boggles the mind why this simple concept of when value exceeded $$ = pay raise, promotion, or seeking a new job for more pay equipped with more knowledge and skills sets.
The union mind does not understand putting in extra effort in order to stand out, pride in a job well done, and aspiring for more....the union mind does only what is required and demands pay increases, cost of living increases, promotions due to quarterly, annually, or because it time for a raise, not because they work hard and now have more value.

There should not actually BE any minimum wage, state OR federal. "I have a job that I need willing workers to do. It pays$xx.00/hour." Want it? Sign here. Don't want it? Step aside so the guy behind you can sign up. What happens next is strictly up to you. We used to understand what, "work your way up," meant. Today everyone wants to have a job at the top handed to them. "Work," has become a 4-letter word rather than an opportunity to be appreciated.

And there's also a supply and demand factor here. If an employer needs a few highly skilled workers he will most likely be willing them a higher wage than for a low-skilled job for which workers may be a dime a dozen. Another fact of economics which liberals continually refuse to acknowledge.
