I don't see where an apology is needed here. I think that you saw a sort of vague video that your experience led to questions for you.
I think that is understandable; and you were looking for input to help answer the questions you had. No big deal...

Thank you sir! You hit the nail on the head!

To show that I am a big enough person to acknowledge when I have made a mistake I would like to rebut. First off I never said ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN! I said with a fair amount of certainty! But, archiebunker raised a fair point which I had not considered at the time, and that was something besides natural gas as the source of the explosion. And as I stated in another post, the camera that I saw the footage from was at a different angle. However, in my defense, if memory serves correctly the story as aired at the time specifically said natural gas. If I am in error, I apologize!

Oh, it's not the possible (likely) error that any apology would be needed for, it's your response to me: "Do you have any demolition experience? I think not, so I will not engage in an online pissing contest with you, something I have noticed in my relatively short time on this forum, that you excel at and appear to revel in!"

But that's okay. I can live without it, I'm just glad to see that you can at least admit that you might be wrong. You'll be hard put to find any Democrat/Liberals on OPP who will go that far.

To quote a comedian whose name I cannot at present remember. " I may not always be right, but by god, I'm never wrong. I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken! LOL

Blacksheep-since we are hell bent on shifting from coal to natural gas has there ever been an explosion of a house heated by coal ? Good Luck America !!!

Coal dust explosions have occurred but I never heard of a home blowing up from it. Anything that heats a home can burn it down, though.

I had heard, many years ago, of small coal dust explosions damaging, but never demolishing houses, as there would, generally speaking, not be enough present for total destruction. And any kind of dust can cause an explosion if present in large enough quantities and properly dispersed in a confined space [reference grain elevator explosions]. We where taught field expedient demo techniques using such mundane things as confectioners sugar and non dairy coffee creamer! An effect very similar to today's Hyperbarick explosives!

I knew a guy in Ohio who was killed in a grain elevator explosion. I guess grain dust can blow to.

Yes. Better living through organic chemistry.

Iron will burn fiercely, too, if it's in dust form.

Yes you can use various metal "salts" to color the flames in your fireplace. Copper gives a green flame, iron bright red, and there are many others!

I think the size of the explosion depends on how long the gas was leaking before detonation. If the leak was small and brief, you might see what the video depicts. If the leak was large and prolonged, the explosion would be enormous. I knew a person whose house exploded back in 1973 - he turned on a propane heater in his garage rhen went into the house to get a match and got involved with something else and forgot the gas was on. Sometime later, somone else opened the door to the garage, which was next to the gas-fired hot water heater, which had a pilot light. The gas ignited, destroyed his house completely and shifted 7 houses in his neighborhood off their foundations. They had to be demolished and rebuilt!

For any gas explosion to occur, the levels of fumes must be, according to the TYPE of gas, within very specific proportions to oxygen content. These are known as LEL [lower explosive limit], and uel [upper explosive limit]! Obviously the smaller the space, the faster the gas will reach its lel and surpass its uel.

You didn't need to, I'm not that excitable, but thank you for that.

Although I fail on occasion, [more often than I may care to admit] I strive to be at all times respectful of the opinions and views of others. I feel that if everyone tried to do the same, the world would be a MUCH better and more peaceful place! ["I may disagree with ever word that you say. But I will defend, to my last breath, your right to say them!"] I must admit that this is a VERY DIFFICULT ideal to live up to, But nothing worth doing is easy!
