I used to think this as well until just recently. I read two books over the Christmas holiday, both by John Perkins, that have changed my entire perspective on many things.
1. Confessions of an Economic Hit Man
2. The Secret History of the American Empire (a follow-up to the first book)
Both are easy reads and can be read in a day or two. These books are more than just exposes of criminal, amoral behavior perpetrated by central banks, multinational corporations, and our government. They are first hand accounts of how America has been empire building around the globe, to include assassination of world leaders, thievery of national resources, slave labor, etc .... perpetrated by all administrations (Democrat and Republic) since the late 1950's (with the exception of JFK - of whom I am no fan - and we all know what happened there).
BE FOREWARNED!! You will not get this first hand account anywhere else. While the events and timelines can certainly be corroborated, no one else has had the courage to speak out as of yet. And I assure you, this stuff is still going on today. Reading these books will be like taking the blue pill depicted in the movie, The Matrix. Once you know the truth you can never put the genie back in the bottle.
