Reminds me of my old darkroom days. I always used stainless steel reels rather than plastic. All of the negative (film) loading had to be in total darkness. Printing from the negatives to the paper was done with a safelight on but you really had to know your way around the darkroom. Some nights were a real bitch trying to make deadlines. The sports section was usually the last to be "put to bed" during high school football season. I had stringers out in several counties shooting and had to wait on them then process the film and start printing. No cell phones so I had no idea where my guys were. The sports editor is raising hell and the composing room is doing the same. Usually got everything rolling around 2am for the Saturday paper. I loved every minute of it.
