My Christmas avatar is a picture of Lauren and three sisters...it is just perfect for this month! I told her of your 'hello'.

Gracias. I hope she didn't respond with my goodness, " Is he still alive?"

Nope. She commented on what a good-looking older man you are.
She never says that about me. :hunf: I'm just Grandpa.
Hello everyone. My name is Richard, I'm 58, a disabled veteran and retired after over 3 decades of programming, managing and programming or beating people over the head with sledgehammers to bring light from chaos. :-) I did not see a create new message button so I am hoping this is how you do so. That's the programmer in me, not being critical but you tend to check out others' work. I am a grandpa with two grandsons ages 1.5 and 2.5, well I actually have 3 but my oldest daughter has now disowned me. I simply could not support her idea to begin a career as a stripper at the age of 37. I don't like to quarrel very much but I do love an honest discussion. I do not consider typing endlessly from a talking points sheet you found somewhere to be honest discourse. I am a bit of a geek and play online games with my grown children and likely soon my grandchildren to help keep the old brain alive. I tutor calculus for free to do the same thing. That will keep you on your toes! In my family we were either coal miners or soldiers and we have left our blood in a lot of countries. My years were 74-78, not the best time to be in the US Army with Carter as my commander in chief. I still remember the rabbit that threatened him. I am sarcastic and simply cannot change. I raised sarcastic children. If you want to argue with them you'd better be able to back it up with facts or watch out for the howitzers. I have been married to one mean old woman for 36 years who is just waiting for me to die so she gets the insurance and can find a boy toy. That or go live with my best friend and become part of his harem. He is not Muslim, he just attracts women but why is a question I will ask God when I finally, hopefully get there. Let's see, what else? I can talk or argue about a range of subjects. I consider myself a conservative independent. I actually voted for a democrat in one cycle, a skinny little guy who came out while the bands of a hurricane were passing over to shake the hand of everyone in his district. It's hard not to support someone that determined but he lost anyway. As to our current President all I can say is we have lost 6 years to the Chinese, Russians and all those who want so much to ruin this peaceful, for the most part, country. Did I vote for him? No and neither did my wife who happen to be multiracial, a mix of Black (her choice as she HATES to be called African-American) and American Indian, in particular the Cherokee tribe. If I were serving under him, well, you raise your hand and take the oath to God and Country and you have to respect the office and the powers of the Commander in Chief but it would end there. This will be a wall of text and I apologize in advance. I am running low after 2 grandsons being around for 3 days. :-)
A hearty welcome and addition, to OPP Old Vet. Your Conservative views will be constantly attacked by the resident Leftist trolls that inhabit these forums, so fasten your seatbelt and be prepared. you will soon learn who they are and those to be ignored.
Welcome, OldVetInSC. In time, you will catch on the workings of the OPP. Until then, just grab hold and ride as best you can until you get the hang of it. I would advise, but I am not particularly astute when it comes to computers.

I am like Smaug the dragon from the Hobbit movies. Flames merely polish my armor and since I am not missing a scale, the flames do nothing except kill off the clinging vermin.
I will give anyone a chance but talking points types or those who pick a phrase to argue to invalidate a complete argument get one such incident. The second earns the blessed ignore. Thanks for the warning.

You are welcome, and once again, welcome to OPP.
Poppa Gringo, Joespenthouse here and I posted the Declaration that I asked to please share, your reply was something like "the working people will probably sign but not those who are not employed".
Could you explain your reply please, the declaration is for anyone working or otherwise and is to be shared to remind those of us who served, of our commitment to the United States of America.
Thanks, Joe Sanchez aka; joespenthouse Vietnam 69-71.

I feel that those that are gainfully employed by the Government would be more inclined to sign the declaration, but those appointed by Obama and his minions would have no inclination to do so. The appointee's wouldn[t have the same feelings for the Country that the hired employees would have.
I served my Country from '52-'55 in the USMC and damned proud of it.
Thank you so much for your Service and also for your reply, I now understand your answer, and I agree with you.
Again, Thanks so much.

I will be 76 next month. In 1952 my father liked Ike; he would have prefered Taft. My mother staunchly voted Republican throughout the FDR era. In the 60's a co-worker told me that if Goldwater won he'd move to Canada. It always seemed to me that Conservatives made the most sense; Liberals appealed to emotions Liberals hate Limbaugh; why can't Liberals bring forth a funny, articulate commentator? Al Franken flopped. In the 60's, universities hired charismatic Socialists preaching leftism as fact poisoning the minds of millions. How can we undo the damage they have done?
