When was the last war nukes were used? How many wars where navel ships used tomahawks, support air and other resources. In a world of nukes, a psycho Russian leader Putin, China sending war ships around the world, Iran sending war ships and so on. The U.S needs to have mass power in multiple places, as a show of power in order to maintain peace. Having nuclear subs only helps in nuclear war, not much good in the dozens of wars and ability to stop wars by shear muscle power.
Obama had neutered American forces, inviting takeovers we are now witnessing.

Well you can put me in the same class as Brian. The US has a military base empire that the sun never sets on. It strings around the world into 138 countries. There hasn't been anything like in the world since the Roman Empire.
