1) According to a New York Times poll, blacks comprise 22 percent of the poor, but blacks only take in 14 percent of government benefits. Conversely, whites make up 42 percent of the poor, but take in a disproportionate 69 percent of government benefits.

The point is that data always cuts both ways. The only reason a large swath of whites believe that blacks are slackers with no will to work is because both the media and public have been complicit in allowing biased data to drive the conversation. You should try to stop that.

YOU "pull" my chain, dipship; that's who. Every time you post something, it's racist through and through. And, no, I'm not "a little pissed off black boy too..?" I'm a white, retired, civil servant, who gets tired of angry little white people, like you, playing your "race card" in the most derogatory of terms.

It seems that every time you write something, you have to interject at least one racial slur. And, if you thought you could get away with it, you'd use the n-word in every post.

You display your prejudices proudly. You should've been be taught, that that's NOT a good thing. Well blame your ack of parental supervision on that. Far be it from me to try to blame you for your actions and words.

You, on the other hand place the blame, for most every problem this country faces, at the feet of minorities. From my vantage point, you and your kind do far more than your fair share toward weakening our country, and have yet to offer-up even the 1st sliver of an idea toward a positive solution to our country's problems. If you're not on medication for your mental illnesses (plural), you need to see a doctor and get on a drug(s) that can help you interact, in a positive manner, around others. Then again, you can't help how you are. Maybe you're anger toward African-Americans is born out of one of them getting a promotion you felt you deserved simply because you're white. I guess the other person's education and job-related abilities shouldn't have had a part in the selection of who gets promoted.

Next time be sure the selection committee knows your feelings of the racial superiority of whites over all of the other races BEFORE your interview. Maybe, you could show them some recent scientific research to buttress your feelings. Be sure that what you present is from globally recognized experts in the field of anthropology and the medical sciences.

Here at JBHE, we have always been particularly interested in how Black students are succeeding at our nations highest-ranked colleges and universities. At these high-ranking colleges and universities, Black students generally do very well and in many cases have graduation rates that are very close to those of their White peers. At a few of the nations top-ranked schools, the Black graduation rate is actually higher than the rate for White students. It is very encouraging that the Black graduation rate has improved at many of the top-ranked schools and the racial gap in graduation rates has narrowed.

JBHE research has found 15 high-ranking colleges and universities that have Black student graduation rates that have averaged over 90 percent over the past four years. The highest rate is at Harvard University, where 97 percent of entering Black students earn their degree within six years at Harvard. At Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, the Black student graduate rate is 95 percent. Blacks at Yale University graduate at a rate of 94 percent and Princeton University, Colby College, and the University of Pennsylvania have Black student graduation rates of 93 percent.

There are five high-ranking colleges where the Black student graduation rate is equal to or higher than the rate for White students. It is interesting that three of these five schools are womens colleges: Wellesley, Bryn Mawr, and Smith.

Among the high-ranking national universities, Harvard has a Black graduation rates that is only one percentage point below the rate for Whites. At Washington University in St. Louis, the Black graduation rate is two percentage points below the rate for Whites. Duke, Emory, and the University of Pennsylvania have Black graduation rates that trail the White rate by only three percentage points.

A decade ago, only five of these top-ranked colleges and universities had Black graduation rates of 90 percent or more, compared to 15 today. That is impressive progress. In 2004, 15 of these high-ranking colleges and universities had racial graduation rate gaps of more than 12 percentage points. Today, there is only one.
