It appears to me that the most virulent folks on both sides in the national debate have forgotten 2 things: 1) Feelings change and they shouldn't be used exclusively in the formation of opinion, and 2) as it is written in the same book I quoted earlier, "there is nothing new under the sun". The lessons of history seem to have been lost on them. Our debt, the care of the sick and poor and elderly, immigration, the projection of power, the decline of morality. All of these things have come up many times in many nations since the dawn of recorded history. We would be well advised to learn from it. although our gadgetry may be a little more advanced, these are not unprecedented times.

you don't know that Alex . I've never stated such . I did say I was an Independent and a Centrist .And have been since 1971 when I got the right to vote .
I also have a Florida conceal and carry , and never go out without my Ruger.380 .

I don't know which is worst. A fake centrist with a FN Five-Seven or a punk centrist with a Ruger.380. Eitherway you're still an asshole.

I don't think history is taught in school anymore, except for politically correct revisionist fiction. Actual US and world history seems to have been supplanted by "multi-cultural studies" and for all I know, underwater basket weaving. Most kids graduate high school today with the equivalent of what was considered a 7th or 8th grade education when I graduated.

I'll just pick one: Greedy --- If you don't mind explain. Do you mean Social Security which I paid in for forty-five years. Medicare, which I've paid in since it was enacted. If the gov't would have left SS funds alone, the fund would be more than solvent and all generations would be secure. SS is not an entitlement nor a retirement fund, it was meant to be a supplement to your retirement from the company you worked for. You really came down on "old people", but remember, you to may get to be old one day and then you may be replying to someone your age. Just don't be hard on the youngster.

I concur, but it is the D party that continues to try and keep it in tact.

Call me weird, but for some reason I find that crooked mouth thing kinda cute. I live waaaay out in the Aleutian Islands and we don't get Fox News. I miss it. Neither Fox nor the alphabets tells the whole truth - just the parts that are palatable to the audience they're trying to attract. Some point in between is the truth. Neither is always wrong. The best thing is to get info from more than one source. Its written in a very good book "there is wisdom in a multitude of counselors".

Sad but much truth, much I find in college classes can be easily taught in high school and middle. Multicultural should be started in elementary with opened, unbiased minds to be able to consider the differences and commonalities we all have.

While there is nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage, I disagree with multicultural studies being taught as a de facto alternative to American History, and US Government. By the time I finished 9th grade, I had what is probably a better working knowledge of the Constitution than most government emloyees today, including elected ones. Conversely, the average student today has a much more extensive knowledge of the origin of Cinco de Mayo, or digging taro roots in Tahiti than I ever did.
