I have posted it before. I never served. I registered for the draft, during the Vietnam war, but fortunately was not called.

It did not make me smug, however. I was an anti-war protester who fought for the right of all American young men to not be sacrificed to the military-industrial defense contractor war pimps-----the very folks that President/General Eisenhower warned us about in his farewell speech.

My father was a WWII vet who enlisted. He was at Pearl Harbor when it was bombed. Following WWII, he emphatically opposed sending young men into battle over causes not their own, especially when there was no attack upon the U.S. itself. We have never been militarily attacked by Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, or the govt. of Afghanistan.

Our troops belong here, safe---at home.
