"A" Liberal Fallacy

The following quote is from a mystery, "A Taste For Death" by P.D.James, written in 1986 (Maggie Thatcher's Britain)--

"If I understand the Honourable Member's somewhat confused argument the Government are asked to ensure equality of intelligence, talent, health, energy and wealth while, at the same time, abolishing original sin as from the beginning of the next financial year. What Divine Providence has singularly failed to do, Her Majesty's Government are to achieve by Statutory Order."

Now I'm not exactly sure what the principles of Liberalism are, as opposed to their idiotology, which is only their justification for the kind of fantasy world they want, or want reality to be, but Conservatives do not believe that everyone was born equal in the respects listed above--that is "reality". We do, however, believe in "Equality of Opportunities."

If any libs are interested in this post, perhaps they can enumerate for me some of their "principles'>

How about a fair playing field, so that you can really be judged on your hard work and talent. And life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Well, isn't that what we call "Equality of Opportunities"?

Yeah I suppose it is. It would be nice if it existed.

Explain 'fair'? You mean everyone gets taxed the same amount of money, and therefore would have the rest enjoy? That would be fair.

Or, you could tax everyone the same % of their wealth (A flat tax). That wouldn't be as fair, but would be more fair than what we have now.

Which do you prefer?

Nothing's perfect.

But a caution about "leveling the playing field". It's so easy to get a "see-saw effect".

I am 100% for a flat tax.

I find the "progressive" system not to be. It is absurd that a multimillionaire that makes much more than me paying a much lower percentage.

That would require that all affirmative action, special quotas and preferential treatment be abolished. It would mandate that children of all races be required to perform at the same standards . At this point that has been accomplished by dumbing down the entire educational system rather than demand that excellence be expected. However, to have that work would mean that black kids would have to improve their skills which they are very capable of doing if we tell them that they can and must. And school would have to be concerned about education not how one "feels" about oneself. Self esteme should be the result of what you do, and if you don't why should you believe you are the best at anything except being a fool. That that point kids will be ready to earn what they get paid, and get paid what they deserve.

I told you I was Liberal, not crazy. If you get rid of the crazies on your side, and I get rid of the crazies on my side, then we can get some things done.

Sounds good, except just saying it doesn't make it happen. Do you really think the wealthy don't want their kids to have preferential treatment? How completely self deluded.

Welcome to America - the land where this is more true than any other land - and where, because of government over reach, may lose that distinction.

For the time being, let's remember that America is the land where those seeking liberty risk life and limb to come to - and those that hate liberty look to take life and limb from all "infidels"

So, to you wealthy folks would be limited to what they could do for their kids as it involves spending their wealth? Amazing

Excellent.
We can start by firing all the teachers in Colorado. Oh wait.
I don't think that's possible with that states favorite pastime
of Naval Gazing.
