I believe the statement should be, --- The NRA believes that if more "responsible/trained" people carry, then people will be safe. The three states that you mentioned Calif., N.Y. and N.J. have some of the strictest gun laws. If you read the findings of the report by the "Bureau of Justice", you would see the statistics that disprove your data. It was an eye opener. More crimes are prevented/deterred by responsible concealed carry people. Check it out, like I said it's an eye opener.

It is not about the NRA...period. It is about protecting the Constitution. What is it about, "WILL NOT INFRINGE", that you do not understand. A "GUN" has NEVER been the problem. Bottom line, people have been killing each other for thousands of years before guns were ever invented.....most murders, in fact, are with knifes. But, you know what automobiles kill more than just about anything.....why don't we get rid of them. Lets follow the Obama/Holder rule. Since so many murders are committed by motor vehicles, we should legalize murder by vehicle, like we do for those who break our immigration laws. For these people to pull guns out they had to have been carrying in one of two ways:
1. Open carry - in a holster worn openly, with some portion of the gun visible. Not legal in Manhattan, or NJ.
2. Concealed carry (CC) - No portion of the gun visible. NJ does license CC, however NY/NYC does not recognize NJ's CC license.

Assuming (I know) that these people started their trip in NY (sorry, no proof in story either way), then these people were carrying illegally, and could not show justified use of deadly force regardless. So by simple definition, these people were NOT law-abiding citizens. Saying everybody would shoot everybody else is a fallacy, based on your personal beliefs, not supported by anything in reality. These people have already proved to my mind, that they will commit unlawful actions anyway.

The "Wild West" as every one knows it, is a Hollywood created myth. Reading interviews with people that lived in those days, it was often said everyone was MORE polite, not less, because ANYONE they talked to might be carrying. Today's violence is often caused by people who feel no concern that someone may be armed also, and think they will not suffer consequences.
