Sicilian, the comment in the OP about Carter being too weak to retrieve the hostages is totally without merit. In case you've forgotten the situation, our intelligence people were totally in the dark as to where the hostages were. They were thought to have been split up into groups and moved to separate locations in order to prevent them from being rescued in mass. Secondly, there was no one in charge of the people holding the hostages to deal with. Thirdly, a rescue attempt was made. Unfortunately, a sand storm came upon the rescuers and the choppers crashed into each other and transports and several rescuers were killed and the others captured. So, saying Carter was weak, only says you don't know of which you speak.

Also, it's real easy being a Monday-morning QB and saying all this crap, now. As to Carter speaking to a conference of Islamists, I don't know a more qualified person. He's spent more time in the Mid-East than all of us put together. Plus, his knowledge about Middle Eastern affairs allows him to point fingers at whomever he thinks is in the wrong. Far more so than you or I. You need to read-up on the "Camp David Accords."

If you'd ever taken the time to read any of his books, you'd be almost as smart as you think you are, now, about the Middle East. If you want to see weakness, just look at those who criticize his actions without knowing the full set of facts. Carter, like Obama, inherited a mess and tried his best to find a way through it. Carter just couldn't fight a sandstorm on the other side of the globe. But, the Repubs thought he should, convinced the majority of the voters that they could and President Actor was elected; like they could've done better.....
