I remain stunned that "the west" just doesn't get it. Who armed them? We did. By pouring trillions into the region buying their oil, we guaranteed an endless supply of money.

Is it our fault? No. We falsely believed that any involvement bringing our "superior form of democracy" would somehow convert these Muslim states into happy little countries full of courteous, hard working capitalists. The cruel reality is that all of these countries are full of poor, crazy people that hate each other along tribal lines. The very notion that you can somehow overlook thousands of years of hatred as old news is fantasy and dangerous.

Who is really to blame? In my opinion, it is the British and French who arbitrarily established borders without regard to tribal lands. The other culprit are the religious despots and other assorted nut bags who attempt to rule over there. The ones who survive the longest are the nastiest (Iranian mullahs, Assad, Hussein as examples).

How do you fix this? You can't. It's Arab and Persian "whack-a-mole"...as soon as one group is gone, another rises.

What should we do? Let them kill each other. Allow despots to destroy their own countries while terrorizing their people. The region was far more stable with maniacs like Hussein and Assad torturing and killing their people.

Who scares me the most? The nuclear state of Pakistan.

Best thing for the west to do? Become energy self sufficient. Call out all Muslim religious "leaders" who call for violence and label them heretics and fakes. Inform the fabulously rich Arabs that it's time to pay up and actually do something about "their kind". Oh, and bomb the crap out the areas that harbor these maniacs. Israel's stance in these matters is instructive. You kill one Israeli soldier, you kill 50 of your opponent. You dig tunnels around schools? Bomb the school. People eventually learn. Because after all, that's the way the middle east has operated since the times of Christ. An eye for an eye. Only now, the stakes are higher, the weapons are more dangerous and the world is interconnected by thousands of flights daily. And sooner or later one of these jerks is going to pull off a really big disaster...right here, and there's absolutely nothing we can do about it.
