Thanks for the link. In 2021 I was tearing my hair out at work, having recently lost our executive director, who was also a good friend, to cancer, on top of trying to work through all the compliance issues we needed to address due to the pandemic.
Reading the article, I vaguely remember hearing about it at the time, thinking it very silly. I never looked into it beyond that, didn't have the time at the time. 🙃😊 I'm curious about whether there was as widespread a push for that as there is now from the right.
The increase in the push to ban books over the last three years is impressive. And the numbers at the ALA include only those they hear about.

What it comes down to is your cult is allowed to ban older well written books because something may offend you, yet have zero issue with young children see explicit sexual books which are nothing less than filth.

Young children should not be reading that material. Its about protecting children. The librarian misses that

To my knowledge, the only book bans are the tranny and gay sexually explicit books in elementary and high schools.
Please provide the titles of the book bans by Republicans.
I’m really curious to know what these “banned books” are.

Exactly. And let us never forget that it was the Left that took the issue of pornography as a freedom of speech matter before SCOTUS and won. They now believe it's appropriate to present explicitly illustrated perverted sex to children. They are sick, sick, sick people and they hate children.
They don’t hate children!
They want to have sex with them!

" “That’s what’s so critical here. The voluntary nature of reading,” said Martha Hickson, a librarian at North Hunterdon High School in New Jersey. “Students can choose to read, not read, or totally ignore everything in this library. No one is asking them to read a damn thing.”[/quote] "
Truly that is a ridiculous argument. I cannot believe that you are so blind as to even think to post it. Now unlike you, I will not just condemn what you said, I will endeavor to point out the WHY I say it is absurd.
The thing is, your statement is almost too obviously nonsensical that even I, who am rarely at a loss for words, struggle to properly explain it, but here goes. To say that any reading material should not be banned solely for the reason that the children will not be forced to read it, means that no material is off limits to be included in a children's library.
Even you, yes even YOU must have some standards, some reading material that you believe should NEVER be put in front of children.
And there used to be a place in the back of adult bookstores where adult content/smut was sold.
Decades ago, children were not even taught about the reproduction system until they were 12 years old. And that information certainly didn't include "graphics" that would be considered x-rated.
It did not include misinformation that confused children about biological certainties. I remember a speaker once saying [no, I don't remember the speaker's name] "that if they weren't only two sexes, then why do transgenders identify as either male or female and take hormones to get the appearance they desire." Once again, those hormones relate to either male or female hormones.
I'd go one further: there are only two genders. The additional genders are an attempt to get humankind to accept practices that go against God's law.
As a society, we have perpetuated the idea that certain skills are either "male" or "female." We do a great disservice to all people who have talents that go against "the norm." We should embrace those with differing talents without saying they must be a "gender" other than the biological sex that God has given them.
We each bear traits or talents labeled "male" or "female." Many choose to hide those gifts if they don't follow sexual norms.

<sigh>
I am on volunteer duty at museum this morning and need to leave. I will try to respond if I have time when we are done cleaning and policing the grounds - which have been in use by neighborhood children unsupervised by their parents after closing hours (so y'all should have some idea if what I might be speaking about here when I get back).

You're trying to compare apples with oranges.
The Left banning books like Dr. Seuss, To Kill a Mockingbird and the Holy Bible with the Right banning books describing Queer sex and Pedophilia to children too young to know what questions to ask.
Really?!

One is called gender queer. I’m sure notmaga moron reads it to his grandkids.

So middle school children should have "penthouse letters" available to read? After all nobody is forcing them to read.
Martha Hickson sounds like an idiot

The ALA is run by a self described "Marxist lesbian" Why would anyone believe it's a good idea to put a marxist in a government position is beyond me, and most Americans
